Not really a fan of explicit scenes during movies etc. If I wanted to watch porn I'd watch porn.

That's probably one of the main reasons I thought Game of Thrones was garbage.

GOT was only really pushing this that hard(oo err, misses, etc) during the first season I'd say but since then TV shows throwing in sex for the sake of it has definitely taken off, the modern version of "jumping the shark" should be the "gay genie cameo".

I would generally tend to say if your going to have graphic sex onscreen you should probably be making a film/show that's at least partly about sex rather than just including it for a cheap thrill. That said of could you could say the same for graphic violence which is much more universal onscreen.

I would give it a go, its long at three hours but that's mostly a case of the director filming very extended conversations(actually think he's one of the best at filming realistically awkward flirting) and building atmosphere. Its not one of those sidelong French art dramas were the story is obtuse, its a straight forward romance with some politics to it..

Politically you'd probably like it as whilst its obviously anti homophobia its actually anti liberal elitism as well which is I'd guess the reason for some of the backlash against it, a lot of the kind of places that reviewed it realised it was having a go at them. Sex wise it breaks the kind of unwritten media rule as well that you can show as much as you like provided its shown as dysfunctional(rape, abuse, mental illness, etc), actually showing people enjoying healthy consensual sex and turning the audience on as the characters are is more of a no no.

Exarchopoulos should have been up for and won best actress that year IMHO.

Cool, I like dialogue like that... it's more realistic.

It does make watching something like say Before Sunrise(as much as I still like it) seem very scripted by comparison.

Its still arthouse drama and demands a bit more from the audience in terms of picking up on things without explicecly being told them(jumping forward about 3-4 years in the middle most obviously) and it does have some litatary references but its not a case of having to work out what the hell the film is about like say Certfied Copy.

I mean I'm not going to be critical of just watching the sex scenes to get off but seeing the film you will see theres some purpose to them being so long/graphic, the first hour or more of the film is basically building up sexual/dramatic tension to the degree when they hook up it needs a believable let off(indeed I think that makes it a lot more erotic). For all the talk or the sex being real of not(supposedly prosthetic genitals for the actresses) if anything felt uncomfortably realistic I'd say it was the drama, made me wonder whether Exarchopoulos was actually having a breakdown during filming.

The girls from "Blue is the Warmest Color" will always be the GOATS to me. There's a scene where they really go in and it's a hard scene to really fake.

Maybe I'll finally watch the actual movie one day.
