His name is Wayne Jenkins, and of course he sobbed in court.

This case highlights why there is often such distrust between the community and the police force. These cases draw some national attention once the officers are caught, but the community knew about this all along. They watch this abuse of power on a regular basis, and they know there is nothing that they can do about it because nobody listens to, or cares, about communities like theirs.

This single "gang" of officers, led by Sobbing Wayne Jenkins, destroyed an untold number of lives.

Washington (AFP) - A police officer described as perhaps the most corrupt in the history of the Baltimore police department was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday.

Sergeant Wayne Jenkins headed an elite unit known as the Gun Trace Task Force that was responsible for stunning amounts of abuse in the troubled US city.

Their job was to take illegal guns off the street. Instead, the Task Force resold weapons they stole, robbed drug dealers and planted false evidence.

US District Judge Catherine Blake sentenced Jenkins to 25 years in prison -- five years less than the maximum allowed under his plea agreement, the Baltimore Sun reported.

The newspaper quoted Assistant US Attorney Leo Wise as telling the judge that Jenkins operated his unit "like a criminal gang" and had done "immeasurable" harm.

Nice to see blacks and whites working together in imperfect dissonance.

How does the judge give him less than the max under the plea agreement? We have poor saps serving life sentences for 1st time non-violent offenses (Trump just pardoned a lady) and this dude gets 25? Sad.

Surprised that this cat wasn't one of the caught gang members!

I'm pretty sure 25 years is a life sentence.

Good, lock them all up. These men broke their oaths, became criminals, and they deserve to spend the rest of their adult lives in jail. As the ring leader, I wish that Jenkins had gotten a harsher sentence than he did.

This, fuck him. Hope he has a lovely time in prison.

Every single one of them should be either hanged or shot, fucking pigs.

I have nothing but respect for honest cops, but these corrupt mother fuckers should all be dead.

Anyone paid by tax dollars needs to be held to a much higher standard- especially police officers.

Not surprised this thread doesn't have a lot of responses. Boot lickers can't even figure out a way to make this a bad thing. lol

I’m a bit baffled at how lenient the sentence is, given the crimes.
Wasn’t a whistleblower in their team murdered?

It's almost as if the "boot lickers" don't exist and people take things case by case, whereas you seem to have decided that the cop is always wrong no matter the circumstance.

I think they should all go to prison, not sure about hanged or shot.
