1)What effects will the free MMA have on the PPV#'s?

2)What effects will Boxing have on CBS headlining another MMA Card? Will CBS drop Elite XC if the numbers are weak, and will Boxing drain these numbers?

3)Do promotors do this to gauge the grey area of both sports? Or does G.S.Promotions do this to fuck with G.B.Promotions?

4)If EliteXC becomes very successful will G.S. put all his eggs in one basket and focus on MMA?

5)Is Gary Shaw considered a top boxing promoter like Top Rank and Lou Dibella or is he second tier?

6)Why do promotors feel they can make us pick? Don't they know we have Tivo?

Slicksters > whiteguys who wrestled in highschool. I'll Tivo the hayemakers.

Thanks guys, have at it.

I thought Mosley vs Judah was on free TV...

I don't understand why this is a ppv fight. I am prety sure it won't even sell out; we had no problem geting a whole bunch of tickets for a bachelor party off of Ticketmaster a few weeks back. I have never been to a fight in Vegas, but always thought that a fight that warrants ppv would sell out quickly.

Mosley and Judah have the styles to put on a great fight. Both are rarely ever in boring or dull fights and this should be a good one even though it's PPV.

I'll probably be flipping through both..

1)What effects will the free MMA have on the PPV#'s?

None. The highly skilled Judah vs SSM contest and the brawling Kimbo (who is most definitely the draw for this card) will attract two very different audiences.

This could be a thread unto its self.
This matchup will not interfere on either party IMO... but this is a card by card thing, if the players involved were different, the impact on each other will change.

CBS will give it a couple of shows, and if the numbers stink, Elite XC will only be on Showtime. What is or is not acceptable to CBS? Who knows?

3)Do promotors do this to gauge the grey area of both sports? Or does G.S.Promotions do this to fuck with G.B.Promotions?

They might, but in this particular situation I don't think there is much crossover audience.
I think Shaw would take whatever CBS offered him and by more than happy with it, regardless of the date. Suggesting GS planned the date to mess with GB is ridiculous. He (and mma for that matter) simply don't have the stroke to make it happen.

4)If EliteXC becomes very successful will G.S. put all his eggs in one basket and focus on MMA?

I very much doubt it. The thing about being a greedy fuck is that too much is never enough. As long as Shaw can make money with boxing, he'll be sticking his paws into both sports.

5)Is Gary Shaw considered a top boxing promoter like Top Rank and Lou Dibella or is he second tier?

He has a good relationship with one of the premiere boxing destinations (TV wise) in the USA. What do you think? He's probably in the top 5 money wise, but that's a blind guess.

6)Why do promotors feel they can make us pick? Don't they know we have Tivo?

Again, you are giving far too much credit to the promoter. In many instances, the promoter would MUCH, MUCH rather have an unopposed fight night. However, there are only so many weekends in a year, and CBS probably gave him a pretty short list of options as to when the card would be aired. ie) maybe he got to pick between a couple of dates, but I would doubt it went past that.

With all of the hype behind mma right now, and all of the exposure Kimbo is getting by various media outlets - I'm guessing the CBS card will do just fine.

No shit(Kimbo headlining)was talking in generalities.

Ah, so 'in general' we should critique the careers of professional mixed martial artists as the sub-standard efforts of "white guys who wrestled in high school" ?

Mosley vs Judah will do horrible numbers. Shouldn't be on PPV.

elite xc is running out of funding and will go out of business if kimbo doesn't pull through in th ratings dept.

I hate fucking commercials. Esp. during big matches. I don't give a shit if it goes on CBS. I rather have it on paid tv.

Relax bro, its a fing joke man. I started this thread so posters would answer questions 1-6(read the post). Why so much emphasis on my sarcasm. I wrestled in highschool and think that the best thing about MMA is that it provides work for guys who never had a sport to compete in. So its kinda like boxing for guys with strong wrestling backrounds. I'm a "white guy" who wrestled in highschool as well ha ha funny.

With that said, are they any white guys who wrestled in highschool(besides pulpduff) who would like to answer my questions. It's not a bad thread.

Mosley v Judah is going to bomb. The undercard is shaping up to be solid, but I doubt that Rocky Juarez and Jeff Lacy are going to turn the tables and put this over 150,000.

That said, the costs are reasonably low for the main event, so it won't be nearly as difficult to recoup costs.

Vote with your remotes, lads. Vote with your remotes.

No one cares about mosley or judah...their styles don't make fights. They aren't draws.

i think the first elitexc on cbs is gonna be big. i don tknow how well it will go in the long run. but being on primetime tv is great.
