As Reagan says: Here I go again: In what is being called a first in potentially larger threat including breaking down national security and bitcoin safety China announced they broke RSA encryption. I have been talking about the security of our data and our transactions this really could be the first significant breach in our national security using quantum computing. China yes has been known to create stories but lately they been adding real meat to their stories. Showing data specific to RSA data security this is not TikTok stories but university papers. She is downplaying these discovery but don't downplay the significance of any design.

The Sabine video you linked explains why this isn't what it was cracked up to be - the encryption break only worked on a special case of prime factors that differ by only 2 bits

Which is massively easier than the mainstream version of the problem, which would be needed to crack communications or bitcoin

Yes no way they broke full RSA yet ? It’s still in infancy .

I assume this is based on their announcement from last year

If it was, they didn't really crack RSA. They used a quantum computer to factor a 22 bit RSA integer. For reference, 2048 or 4096 RSA keys are norrmally used, and the difficulty in cracking the keys is exponential as the bits increase, not linear.

If someone does manage to crack RSA I can guarantee they will not announce it.

I mean to say if it was a Nation state like the Chinese, they would just start hacking our systems instead of announcing that they cracked RSA.
I'm kidding but they're not even remotely close. They'd need millions of error correcting qbits with high fidelity. It's like saying Chinese physicists might invent a time machine and use it to go back in time and spy on us.

They explained this has been updated for 2048 bit encryption.

Only for a special case where you could do the same with a classical computer. Any Chinese research of real value to goal of cracking RSA 2048 would be classified.

Quantum is a bit of a scam tbh. A lot of hype to boost stock prices. Efficient and scalable quantum computing might not even be possible in our universe.

These threads are good at one thing.

Trapping all the boo bird fn dorks who only come out with their cryptos a scam trash talk pisssed because they didn’t buy on their ignorant premises. They get saltier the higher the price goes

They can only wish this story is true. Which it’s not.
