More impressive: Jones beating Gane or Silva beating Forrest ?

It's probably Jones. We never seen him at HW. I believe Jones opened as an underdog according to the bookmakers. Towards the end Gane became the underdog due to the bets on Jones. Let's be honest. People weren't sure Jones was going to dominate. He looked fat like Damon Wayons in the Great White Hype movie.

Silva opened up as the favorite and became a bigger favorite towards the fight. Andy's fight was a better highlight reel. He clowned Griffin.

We literally only know about the Xanax because Forrest himself revealed that he'd failed his drug test for it. NSAC never mentioned it or seemingly suspended him given he fought 3 months later against Tito. Forrest brought it up.

As to whether it's a valid excuse, the reason why people mention it is because Forrest looks so different in this fight compared to all his others in this period. And yeah, it does look like he's on a muscle relaxant once you know one literally was in his system.

Yes Silva is the better striker. Forrest was a good striker, but was expected to challenge him by being a very big LHW who could lean on him, slow him down, and possibly take him down where his weight and size would be even more of an advantage. Silva entering the Matrix wasn't something anybody expected to happen. Maybe another KO sure, but not what he did. Forrest being on Xanax does help explain why Silva Matrix him meanwhile Shogun, Rampage, and Rashad, all great strikers, couldn't do this to him at this time.

Believe it played a factor or not. It was over 14 years ago.

Forrest took his normal dose of prescribed Xanax the night before to help him sleep. And whenever he brought it up was an anedcote. In no case anything even remotely resembling an excuse for his loss. Period. You are not fooling anybody educated on that. It's actually embarrassing that a number of forumrats still push such BS to this day.

Anderson Silva was able to read and slip Belfort's punches with his hands down. Whether if people knew about what Silva was capable of doing to slow-hands Forrest or not depends on each indiividual. Forrest certainly found out that night and didnt make any excuses. It's about time you cut the BS 14 years later, mate.

Have alot of similarities now you mention it.

Both 0 defence former champions vs lighter reigning champions.

Both heavier fighters have a good range of finishes, sub and kos.

Both had two proper world class wins before the fight (rampage, shogun- volkov, jds)

But how Anderson beat Forrest made Forrest like he had no place in a cage.

One was a title fight, the other wasn't.

That's your answer right there.

No fight involved the best fighter in its division, one being for a belt is just fluff.

Jones did have the long layoff so that could lean towards him...but the way Gane fought that night it looked like most could have beaten him. Same w Forrest tbh
There is a possibility that is he looked that way because he was fighting Jon Jones

Jones beating a guy with zero grappling by grappling wasn’t impressive. The manner in which Anderson beat Forrest was incredible.

Depends on how you look at it. Overall Forrest>Gane, no doubt.
Silva was in shape back then while Jonny had some question marks going into the Gane fight. In terms of expectations, Jon did much better.
In terms of the opponent’s quality Silva’s win over Forrest is just better.

I would say Anderson over Forrest. Forrest was a former champion and had many fights in the UFC and we kind of knew who/what he was. Gane fights in a weaker division and despite being around for a little bit now, I still don't feel like I have a solid grasp on how good he actually is. Not discounting Jones' win, it is impressive, but I do think Anderson's win was more impressive.

Gane was Champion too

I gotta say Jones. Didn't expect that.

In terms of moving up a weight class and destroying your opponent:
It's close but I gotta go with Silva:

Silva didnt beat forrest. He showed the world who The Best was and how easy he could do it

I think this was the most spectacular performance in all mma history

Thats my answer

Is this a serious question? It's easily Silva.

Conor McGregor beating 10 year unbeaten world champion Jose Aldo in 13 seconds is better than both.

{<Mcgoat}

Khabib beating Al is more impressive than these two overrated victories.

In general Silva over Forrest, but Jon's win put him up as universal GOAT so it counts more in the grand scheme of things.

I think panic wrestling is usually when a person who doesnt usually wrestle gets tagged a lot and starts to panic and resorts to wrestling and taking their opponent down

Example conor was getting pieced up in his first fight with nate, then panicked and started to wrestle which he rarely does

I could be wrong though
This is the correct definition.

Coined by Conor himself not that long before he demonstrated it in the Nate fight.

Jones beat the HW champion within minutes. That trumps what Silva did

However Silva beat a high ranking LHW in a such spectacular fashion reminiscent of a damn kung fu movie-
