More important: Elon Musk or Neil Degrasse Tyson

NGT is just a mouthpiece for the MSM talkingpoints.

Haven't heard an original scientific opinion from him in years.

Oh no, there are lots of guys who are nowhere near the top in their field and are pushed into the public prominence and given 500 TV shows and guest spots on talk shows, and still keep all of it after like half a dozen rape allegations, and People magazine always give out their coveted "sexiest astrophysicist alive" award. <lol>

Wait..you think everyone on TV and is famous is at the top of their field?

It’s actually the opposite lol

The smartest and most talented people rarely make good communicators let alone have the charisma to do things like tv and podcasts. That’s a different skill altogether.

It’s the same reason CEOs are rarely the best at one thing but great at a lot of things. Hell that’s how most industries work.

You seem bitter for some unknown reason

Why would we need someone to give us original opinions everyday? That’s moronic but not surprising coming from you.

You guys are the idiots that say the world is going crazy and 2 plus 2 is 4 etc but want constant original ideas? How would he do that while not in the lab 24 7?

Anytime someone says something different you make ten threads calling it stupid but want something original now lol. You’ve been fighting against trans people for years yet you want more things to complain about?

Just the sheer ignorance of how the world works but you guys never ceases to amaze me.

NGT is an egotistical asshole. Elon is literally the richest man in the world getting us to become an interplanetary species.

I'm a bit concerned that us becoming an interplanetary species might not be a good thing if there are other species out there who are aware of us but just leave us alone.

I doubt any more advanced life forms would be keen on humanity spreading much beyond earth though.

@Tastalyvr here likes listening to Copy&Paste opinions, parroted by numerous other people over and over again.

Thats moronic.

*Yawn*
Where'd you Copy&Paste this from?
The same people NGT copy his opinions from?

How is this even a question? Elon is going to go down as the most influential tycoon of the past decade, maybe even past century. Tyson won't be remembered much past his death.

Elon is far more influential and important than Tyson.

HOWEVER, Tyson is 100% right about Mars.

It makes absolutely no sense to expend the massive resources needed to colonize Mars when we could just fix Earth's problems.

It may not even be possible for humans to survive on Mars - ever. The gravity on Mars is about 38% of Earth's, which means that if you weigh 100 pounds on Earth, you would weigh 38 pounds on Mars.

How the hell is science going to solve the gravity problem? Live in a centrifuge that produces artificial gravity? Not to mention the radiation, temperatures, food production, water needs, etc. Just makes zero sense to ever colonize Mars.

Got to admit, you and NGT sound pretty convincing.

I'd be 100% satisfied with first colonizing the moon, which would be significantly easier, before boldly going to Mars.

Long-term exposure to zero gravity is not healthy whatsoever.

There are lots of brilliant astrophysicists. Elon is unique and advancing engineering beyond what Neil advances astrophysics imo while impacting humanity greatly.

What engineering is Elon advancing?

I don't particularly like Tyson and think he's too into the smell of his own farts, but the myth of Elon as Tony Stark has to die.

If we're talking about impact on humanity Elon is huge, and Tyson is insignificant. I just wish people would take a closer look at what Elon is doing and have a greater appreciation of how little of it is for "humanity". I don't know how much power he's going to have in Trump's administration but it blows my mind that so many are comfortable with the richest man in the world being given political power that can directly influence his own deals with the government.

I watched it too really funny how Neil couldn’t admit here is a difference between males in sports and females .. crazy he’s scared of the woke mob.

The idea of a "scientist" effectively saying "that's the result, why it happened doesn't matter" is so fucking mind-blowing for me. Already thought Neil was a bought and paid for tool, this hasn't changed that opinion one bit

Or even habitats in the oceans or underground.

How would they advance humanity?

Space is the final frontier.

It's happening anyway. And it's a lot easier and cheaper than colonising another planet or even the moon.
Plenty of advantages to a better understanding of our own natural environment, and of course it would extend our capability for resource extraction (not everyone's thrilled about that).
Also a lot of the lessons learnt from colonising one hostile environment could be learnt cheaper, with less risk and transferred to future space colonisation.

Both are going to be regarded highly, Musk ahead on Cecil People's decision.

NGT made Astro physics less cerebral and more able to be understood by everyday people. He's perhaps a better humanist than Musk

And Musk for physically pushing forward advanced ideas and making them a reality. Musk will have a longer Wikipedia for sure.

Okay then. If its already happening then its already happening. Let them handle that and Musk will handle the space thing.

I think the concern is that Musk's intention to colonise Mars is more futurist vision than realistic short term goal, and hubris more in line with the implosion of the Titan submersible than current attempts to colonise the deep.
I'm OK with it so long as the volunteers know what they are getting into and it's Musk or his investors money which is spent.

I don't really get the point of colonizing the moon. There's nothing there.
