Multiplat Monster Hunter Wilds "We Are So Back" Hype Thread

Going for Gunlance. I'd prefer HBG with wide shells, but ammo is expensive.

Game feels more like GTA than World. Movement feels a bit awkward.

Biggest challenge will be the control scheme. I still need to find a way to get to my Whetstone. Have they removed the items from d pad?

Whetstone should be on your first radial menu by default.

On PS5 it's hold L1 + press D-Pad Up to select your first radial menu.

Then while holding L1 you press Up on right stick to use the whetstone which is assigned to that slot by default.

I'm in Chapter 2, about to talk to the dork about something or other.

Main story is...there. Characters are alright in a PG way but also seem thick as pigshit. I'd have loved to have punted that kid up the arse and into the pit below when he looked to throw a rock at the Wraith. Dumbest move in the history of gaming.

The world looks great but it's a bit too cluttered sometimes. I'm glad that it looks like more of a world and less of a bunch of arenas.

Monsters look interesting, but I miss some of the classics. Spiderdude is a fun little fight. The armour is snazzy too.

It looks very pretty and a lot of effort has gone into it's presentation, but it doesn't run particularly well on One S. Textures aren't great. It's also weirdly lacking in colour, despite being set in colourful areas.

Gameplay is quite fun but I'm missing a few things from World. No Health Beacon and I miss the d pad when selecting ammo and scrolling for items. I even miss the bloody clutch claw system in Worlds. Taking two weapons is cool, though is the swap button and calling the weird ostrich thing the same button?

As my memory serves me, I think that Worlds was the better game on release. Simpler, but played better, maybe even looked better, with better designed monsters.

I'm still into it though. I'd give it an 7.5/10 so far, an 8 if the graphical issues weren't there.

Yeah, I hate the radial menu, with a passion.

I'm low on health and I have to stop and closely check everything. Every time I've been dropped this far, it's because of an inability to heal myself. I start to panic when bringing it up. I'd much rather use the D pad to select it, or drop a health beacon.

Really want to start this so I got it on the PS5 Pro. Is anyone playing? Anyone want to play?

Yeah, if there's one thing that's universally bad in this franchise, it's inventory management. It's always been a bit of a joke having to cycle through a bunch of shit in real time to get to the item you're looking for. Even with quick menu's, it's a pain. If you're gonna have a system like that, the action should at the very least slow down to let you find what you're looking for, like they do in other games with a busy item menu.

This isnt possible in multiplayer games. Will force sporadic slow downs onto all connected players breaking game flow.

Oversaturation of on use items is one thing. Core problem is the lack of available inputs on controller. Standard PS5 controller has a 18(?) button count. My mouse alone has 10, with the use of a singular keyboard modifier this expands to 20.

Okay, that's a good point. I often forget that this is a multiplayer game at it's core. The inventory management itself could still use some serious work, though. It's a friggin' mess.

man these monsters in the iceborne expansion aren't quite exactly the pushovers that the monsters in mh worlds are. the first two are rather easy but then after that it's ramped up.

maybe i'm just way more used to fighting the monsters in the base game as i have done a fair bit of grinding for gear and weapon upgrades.

i wish the evading was more like dark souls and elden ring with the iframes and shit. sheating and then diving and then redrawing the weapon is supposed to be the way to go but that takes way too long and then i have to get myself back into the fight. but going full rollie pollie to try to avoid damage doesn't seem like a viable option against these guys. i find myself having to go back to camp and replenish my mega potions in the middle of battle a fair bit because i'm getting smacked up against attacks that are rather hard to avoid.

I just blocked them with a shield for the most part, until a certain cheap monster forced a damage checkpoint on the game and made my tank shotgunner build non-viable.

What weapon are you maining?

What weapon are you maining?

dual blades. for life. killing aint a problem. i'm just trying to get used to dodging attacks of these new and powerful iceborne monsters.

that tigrex gave me some grief. but with a few shots of rum i was able to overcome and get er done.

i'm only master rank 10 hunter rank 77. i know it's only going to get harder from here and i aint even made it to the guiding lands where the real fun begins but man, some of these iceborne monsters fight dirty and i ain't even seen the half of them yet. i'm actually getting a good sense of accomplishment by taking these fuckers down. they're not quite the punching bags that the base game monsters have been so far. but man they fight cheap lol.
