Monster Hunter...Enlighten Me

It wasn't the easiest battle but I made it through him after a couple of carts. Farmed him enough afterwards to get that life stealing set and then farmed Jho for a gem. Got a Nerg gem too but I'm not sure if I should run Critical Eye 3 over Handicraft 2 without Protective Polish.

Finally got to Xino'jiiva tonight and only took one faint from him, damn shame I can't farm that mission because I want that gear! Fucking beautiful ending too.

This game is up with Pokemon and Fire Pro Wrestling in my top 3 game series of all time. I'm bummed I didn't get in to earlier but I'm grateful to have found it. The monster designs are simple yet complex and the amount of gameplay options feels limitless. Now I get to start the real challenge and take on the huge rosters of the portable games.

Just got MHW on pc. It's so deep, and I am so out of my depth, but I can see I'm gonna slavishly play this shit once I get into it. Leading a monster into the lair of a bigger monster early on was such awesome emergent gameplay as they call it. That's always the best shit in games, when the world creates it's own stories without having to tell you anything, you just experience it.

Thought I would farm a Kushala Daora investigation tonight to get my hands on that squid glaive. It was a 30 minute limit in the Ancient Forest. I knew it would be tough but didn't expect the nightmare that it was. Constant zoning with the wind to keep me from getting hits or mounting, constant movement so I couldn't get my kinsect buffs, and flying around the forest meant I spent 15 minutes just chasing him.

Got it with a couple minutes to spare though. Need a couple more hunts for some more webbing, but I got a gold crown out of it which made the hunt a good one. I'm going to be a happy hunter when I don't have to see that asshole again.
Flash pods trivialize him and the other elders. Unless they’re tempered, in which case the flashes lose effect after 3-4 uses

Xbox One S.

I solo with either Karma LBG and full Legianna Armor, or with Nergal Impaler Lance and Uruguaan armor.

Multiplayer, I’m using a Nergal HBG with shield and Urugaan armor, but I’m not having much success in general.

I used to use a Hammer from time to time in MHFU, though I do rely a lot on Guard...
Nergs HBG is the best craftable spread 3 gun in the game. Spread requires you to stay in the monsters face and shoot weak points tho so it can be difficult to get the hang of. It’s a dangerous playstyle but incredibly effective once you get the right setup

Deviljho is the only fight I've genuinely disliked. First time ever fighting him tonight. Carted me a couple of times, ended up getting him but couldn't get shit going with my IG so I ended up chasing his ass around for 30 mins.

What system? I'm looking to take him on as well since he's got the best armor.

I've tried the Bazelgeus lance and Deviljho HBG but didn't have too much luck with them. I'm sure I just need more time is all though.
Deviljho HBG is made for cluster bombing and it’s the best cluster gun in the game without question. I used it to farm Behemoth, beat Extreme Behemoth, and get all my AT Nergigante tickets. You can craft ammo while reloading if you learn the radial menu so you can rain a nonstop barrage of explosions onto monsters with it.

He sucks for most weapons because he’s tall and has weird weakpoints. He’s basically designed to be a pain in the ass. Try tempered Deviljho whenever he comes back. 3rd hardest fight in the game besides Extreme Behemoth and AT Nerg.

Yeah, I use either a lance or a HBG with a shield, so I really struggled during that quest. Squeezed through it once and that was it.

My next quest is to kill a “Behemoth”, which has been decimating every team that I’ve been on so far...
Behemoth is a nightmare with randoms. I remember when he first came out I had like 3 victories in 4 hours. Now he’s a piece of cake.

@Slick_36 what would you say are the ideal armor skills for archers?
Critical element, elemental attack for whatever element your bow is, spreadshot, might bow skill, normalshot, weakness exploit and crit boost. Raw attack bow is dog shit so always match your bow to your targets biggest weakness I.e. water for Teostra, ice for Lunastra, lightning for Deviljho, etc

You’d think having a weapon that can vault on a tall enemy would be helpful but nope, armored back so attacks do fuck all.

Aim for that belly and settle for the legs if you can't reach it. Just be patient and avoid his attacks, he'll tire and become more vulnerable as it goes on. Use a blast kinsect and mark his belly or head, use the vault for reaching the clouds and avoiding attacks while keeping your offensive momentum.

Thanks. I think what I'm having trouble with is the different ammo, what each gun can use, how to get it, and what it does.

Yeah I didn't realize you could basically carry 13 flash pods when I first fought him. I also didn't realize you could explode a cloud by marking it. I want to fight Kush again but I got the Glaive I was after and it's not so good, I could use some more gems and that armor though.

Just grinded the Xino'jiiva armor today and ended up with a couple gems. Trying to figure out if I should run that or the Nerg set, both seem equally capable.

It's so addicting once it clicks. It's a really well crafted game and there's so much packed in to even the smallest details. The combat looks like hack and slash but is actually super precise and strategic, which makes taking a monster down feel like something YOU did rather than your gear.

@Dizzy you really want to stay on the ground when attacking with the glaive. Aerials should be for mounting and evading and no more. There's a pretty big difference in the damage output, ironically the last thing you learn to do with the glaive is fight on the ground with it.

Cluster bombing-Deviljho
Spread-Nerg or glutton if you’ve farmed Kulve Taroth
Pierce-Legiana or one of the Kulve HBGs, either Taroth Support or Kjarr Water HBG

That’s about it for HBG, not a great weapon for elemental ammo and normal ammo is kinda crappy as well. Zorah Magdaros HBG is decent for status ailments and has slightly weaker cluster bombs than the Deviljho

No I know, I usually do. When I’ve got my red buff going if I can keep juggling myself in the air, I can rack up a ton of damage with little risk on some monsters. I thought it might work for Devil but was completely worthless.

Xeno set is the gunner meta, especially the AT Xeno gear because of the spareshot skill you get when wearing 3 pieces. I’d start doing mix sets but honestly once you get Behemoths armor you probably won’t wear anything else

Last expedition was mad. Went looking for unusual Rathian footprints in Wildspire and hunted a lost Pukei-Pukei but before i left i thought i'd have a crack at Diablos again. During our fight i saw a shadow with wings closing in on us thinking a Rathian was approaching but instead a massive Bazelgeuse swooped down and pwn'd the Diablos. Never seen one before so had no idea what to expect at first. Found my rhythm after a few cartings and had him on the ropes before he tapped to strikes and flew away.

Disappointed that i didn't get the kill but was an all round thrilling expedition. Onward to high rank.

@HereticBD

Were you enlightened? How do you feel about this game?

I gave up. I can appreciate what it was doing, though.

Not a shit game. Very unique in how it approached dungeon crawling. It wore me out, but I can't shit on it in any meaningful way. Found it unrewarding, personally, but I'm not gonna argue with folks who enjoy it. I can see the appeal. It's just not for me.
