Monster Hunter...Enlighten Me

Ahhhh how’s the damage? Pierce is a niche ammo that largely sucks

I haven't tried it enough to tell, but it makes sense with a monster like that. Just aim for the face head on and go down the body.

I'm quite new with this, though I have a lot of experience with Unite. I use normal shot 1, rapid fire, with the bone lbg and I look for weaknesses whilst planting mines.

I like the mobility, but I mainly use it for tranq ammo.

So far, still capturing at lower levels, Barroths and Pukei Pukeis.

I have a full Pukei Pukei set for no other reason than aesthetics, but the Pukei Pukei lance compliments it well. I’m getting used to the lance again, but I get overzealous and die at times.

The hammer is a devastating weapon and a lot of fun to use in tight corners. It has my fastest kill, The Great Jagras.

HBG is the drizzling shits. Unless you have the ability to block, you need to be able to move in this game. Damage wasn’t great either.

I’m happiest with LBG right now, mainly because of tranq ammo, but clumping three mines together and shooting them as a monster stands on them makes up for the low damage shot.

I hope we get the Kecha Wacha again in World. I love that flying squirrel, monkey, elephant, aye-aye bastard!

I've been playing a lot of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate instead of World like I had planned, just easier to jump in and out I guess. I'm loving it. I'm rocking the Insect Glaive and Hunting Horn 90% of the time, probably not the most beginner friendly but they're fun.

Just bowgunned a Legiana to capture, which fainted me twice and caused me to have to run from South to North twice, with north being really damn high.

It isn't the strongest monster that I've beaten, it just hits very hard. Should have taken me less than 45 minutes (including getting lost).

Jeez, that makes me nervous. I'm used to 20 minutes being a long hunt lol. I'm really digging the Switch Axe in World, it's so much smoother than it used to be. It's amazing how much the different weapons affect the gameplay.

Just beat the investigation after Zorah Magderos.

Speaking of Zorah, trying to navigate that motherfucker is extremely frustrating. Twice, I was only able to blow up only two cores because I kept getting lost and I didn’t bother with the smaller monster the second time round.

Fortunately I’m good with cannon and the dragonator...

I keep meaning to play World only to get sucked in 4 Ultimate before I get to it. I'm fucking addicted right now. Just beat Gore Magala and crafted an Insect Glaive from it, I feel unstoppable. Time to take on a Rathios next time I pick it up.

I did pass the Tobi Kadachi yesterday in World though. The mechanics of mounting aren't as effective now but it's a ton of fun playing with the glaive. It's the perfect weapon for me and my bug obsession, plus it's got the funnest mechanics I think.

Thinking about playing around with the Gun Lance now that I've realized how powerful it can be, I assume it comes down to the monster on that one though. Need to start practicing with the Horn too so I can jump in to multiplayer.

I’ve activated my trial Live membership.

I’m “OftenStabbie”.

I also have GTAV and Borderlands: Handsome Collection.

If anyone needs a teammate...

Dang it, always seems you guys are on Xbox for the games I want to play with y'all lol. Just took the Gore Magala in MH4U down in a 10 minutes, I feel like a pro now. The Insect Glaive I crafted from it is brutal, can't wait to start taking on the big dragons with it.

The game is $19.99 on Amazon right now if $30 has you on the fence.

Edit-$19.99 on PSN too.

Whooped some Anjanoth ass last night on my first try, though it took 30 minutes and I fainted twice. Never really seemed too hard, but it was incredibly fun. Now I'm HR 5 which I think means I'm about to jump in to the big boy monsters pretty soon.

I’m doing the first of the high rank quests now.

I’ve begun the first few days of my free Xbox live trial and have found that my connection is really choppy, and I drop out a lot.

The games that I’ve been able to stay in, the players weren’t great...

Once you reach High Rank, the armor skills and gem combinations you use become more and more important. Going into those harder fights with a mismatch of skills that don't build your character up in a meaningful way becomes a bigger and bigger handicap.

Of course it is all relative to the weapon type you have chosen to run with mainly, but offensive minded character builds(No Shields) want to generally rely heavily on skills like..
- Weakness Exploit
- Critical Eye/Critical Boost
- Attack Boost
- Health Boost
- Stun Resistance (Saves you from many needless cart rides)

If you are using Shield weapons, the type of skills you want to rely on are...
- Weakness Exploit (Will be the only DPS oriented skill you need, max it if possible)
- Guard up
- Health Boost
- Stun Resistance

Outside of that you can add situational things that suit your needs to those general foundations, things like Non-Elemental Boost, if using an elementless weapon, which I recommend. Flinch Free, if you are using faster, combo based weapons and don't want the interruptions during an important combo sequence. Earplugs, for the same reason, monsters roaring in the middle of important combo sequences can be a pain. Handicraft, if the weapon you are using is great in every way except it has crappy sharpness, remember upgraded sharpness colors increase damage, penetration/bounce, and critical chance with each higher tier. Slugger, if you are using blunt weapons that can already stun, this would increase your stun potential, stunned monsters are a great help for you and your team mates.

Hope you found this helpful

So I'm an idiot and decided to restart after 15 hours just after killing the Anjanoth so I could rename my character to Jho. I just caught back up and finished the Zorah capture mission.

Been using the Insect Glaive and have a pretty solid Tobi Kadachi build going but decided to try out the Hunting Horn on a Great Jagras. The hunt lasted 2:13 and I got hit with only a couple of glancing blows that barely scratched me. I can't fucking wait to use this thing with a team. My strategy will probably be IG for the flying and speedy monsters while using the HH for slower terrestrial based things.

I'm just past the Legiana now, feeling like a pro. I'm beating pretty much everything comfortably, maybe getting fainted once by the harder monsters when I get greedy. I've still got to take on the Rathion, Rathalos, and Diablos but I'm nervous lol. I guess I'm almost to high rank now which is exciting.

Just got the game for my nephew yesterday so hopefully I can carry him long enough for him to get the hang of it.

Expansion trailer dropped today. Looks excellent, there are a ton of game play changes as well.

I was just about able to squeeze past Diablos, a monster that I struggled with in Unite as well.

I had trouble getting past the high rank Anjanath, but I changed to Lance and threw up an SOS flare.

In thinking about capturing a few low level Great Girros and going for the para gunlance, though I'll miss the Lance dash.

I'm wondering how good a shield is on a HBG, because it was garbage in Unite.
