Monster Hunter...Enlighten Me

Just killed my first Zinogre. It was in MH4U, but it's still a Zinogre damn it! Can't wait to pick up Iceborne but it's nice that I can still go back to 4U and have a ton of fun with it. I put it down for World right at Heaven's Mount with Rathalos, Zinogre, and the Seltas Queen. Rathalos was easy enough, Zinogre burned some Mega Potions but wasn't too tough, and I saved the Queen for last. This is a fight I've really been anticipating, up there with Deviljho and Rajang for me in terms of hype.
Zinogre is amazing and has the best spread HBG in the game

I really enjoyed his 4U fight, I'm more excited to face him in Iceborne now. Great balance of being aggressive but allowing for some freedom, unlike Tigrex who I love in concept but the fights feel 100% reactive instead of proactive.

Tigrex I hopped in a multiplayer for. I beat him twice solo in the beta so I didnt care. He’s a dick.

I enjoyed the Beta fight with him but have only fought a Frenzied Tigrex in 4U. Absolute nightmare. I had a slow Kinsect so most of the fight was chasing a red a buff and trying to avoid the rush. I really hope we get the Molten Tigrex at some point though, I love the idea of him heating up.

I didn't have a problem with him.

Just hid behind a guard up and guard lvl5 Lance and poked him to death.

Guard is incredibly powerful in this game, unlike in MHFU, where it took a lot of grinding in order to be viable...

I was using CB so getting damage openings was problematic. Also need at least guard 3 to guard point anything.

I have master rank full set Urugaan beta armour, gemmed with Health Boost X3 and Attack X7.

I'm not particularly skilled but I come prepared.

I used to get absolutely smashed in Freedom Unite by Tigrex, until I learned to Lance.

Took a break from MHW to play Yakuza 6, Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2. I basically went all story for the second half of Judgment and am now tucking into Iceborne.

Am I the only one having a hard time with the clutch claw? Not so much how to use it but adjusting incorporating it into my play style. The obvious solution is to just play more - I just wanted to know how you all adjusted to using it.

I don't use it at all, but I play very defensively.

I played MHFU a lot before playing this game, so I find things like the slinger and clutch-claw to be quite jarring.

You're a damn OG. I went from 3U, to 4U, to MHG. The slinger was a welcome addition but I have a hard time remembering to use the clutch claw.

I also love how this thread went from trying to convince OP to play MHW to a complete MHW discussion thread.

Well my first (and only other MH game) was Unite on the iPad, which I played for a few years.

It had a really steep learning curve, especially as I had to use a touchscreen to move the character and move the camera.

As I remember, I first moved forward by defeating the Giadrome with a long sword, then at some point changed to bow, then LBG, and then HBG when I became better at evading.

Then Tigrex, with its homing, unrolloutthewayable charge, came along.

So I went to multiplayer with the bow, got lucky with the Tigrex quests and at some point, started to do training quests, realized that Lance is superb for being a turtling pussy and never looked back, learning to counter-poke with Darkness along the way (I miss smashing giant crabs with it).

MHW plays like a dream in comparison, but I keep my gameplay pretty basic.

I plan on getting it, I loved the base game but I have too much to play atm.

Tried a few times, and failed, to slay Velkhana.

I have a feeling that Odogarons Misery II may be my best bet, as I failed miserably with the hammer and HBG.

Stepped away due to frustration.

Velkhana is a rough one. Don’t give up! Make some master rank armor and give it another go

Just wondering what HBG to go for. I'm fond of applying Sleep and Paralysis effects, but also like recoilless pierce rounds.

I have the subspecies of Vaal Hazak next. If it's anything like arch-tempered Vaal (with its AOE that works directly against how I play), I may have a bit of difficulty with it...

Hey I'm knee deep in this semester. Can someone tell me if the new content is good? Is it free?
