Hey everyone hope you're doing good ?

Any of you ever been in a career situation when he had to chose between money and doing something he truly likes ?

I'm stuck in the dilemma and I'm leaning towards the money side. But I am double guessing because I'm a bit afraid of having regrets when I get older.

It's a career choice that I will stuck with for what's left of it probably.

Any of you been there ?

I took the cash and enjoy my life outside of work. Recommended.

Do both. I had a tech day job that I hated but it paid the bills and at night I was a bouncer for fun but it also made extra cash.

Man you sure know how to do it. Nice example.

You will likely be better taking the money.

With that said I have a friend who took a big pay cut when taking a new job. His old job was greatly stressful, and causing problems at home. As he would tell me, his job was going to cause his wife to leave him. He was angry all the time due to the stress. The new job was much better, less stressful, more fun, and as he would frequently say, saved his marriage.

18yo-45yo Money

45yo-(???) Passion

Unless your single, never been married or had kids then it’s Money or Passion at 100%, but not both, one or the other.. Unless you’re one of those people who found Money and Passion in the same thing..

If you found that, Fuck You!

Yeah.

I've told this story over in the WR and received nothing but hate and disbelief.

17 years in the Army I said FUCK THIS, requested a release from active duty, sold all of our stuff and bought a sailboat.

My kid was like 6 years old and my wife sent me a video of him learning to ride his bike without training wheels as I off on another months long training event. That sent me over the edge as I really didn't like my job anyways.

We had plenty of money since we had been DINKS for so long. Everyone is like OMG YOU GAVE UP YOUR PENSION AND BENEFITS - YOU'RE A FUCKING IDIOT!!!1!! Nah, man. I wake up everyday and spend my whole day with my family having adventures in far off lands.

I do both I guess. I mean I like what I do and get paid well enough. I could go to another company and make more in the same position... But I really like my company and have good job security.

So I guess I'm choosing security over both right now. It's bad enough I work in tech and am 46

People are close minded. We as humans living in a capitalistic world are afraid of tomorrow. I know I am. I'm happy for you man, I dream of leaving everything take a plane and a indefinitely long road trip in South America. Props to you.

Tech is hard right now. I guess I'll go with the money... For now...

Choosing money when youre young allows you to chase your passions when youre older, choosing passions when youre young may force you to chase money when youre older

I did it the second way, shoulda chose the first
Wanting to go see strippers for my birthday today

What is the passion option?

I could literally have written the exact same post, even down to the age.

No, I've never had the opportunity to work in a passion career of mine. Was discussing this with one of the trainers at the boxing gym this week, she's full time there and loves it, I'm jealous but my mortgage wouldn't get paid if I did that. (I'm in IT sales)

Whats preventing your passion from making money? Is the specific industry or do you doubt your talents? Passion is usually a big edge and that comes with the financial side; so are you doubting your abilities?

Mine are one in the same because was smart enough when I was young to set my self on that pathway.

Be safe, I'm on eggshells still in the same medical device industry. It's just as rough as Tech with the combo of tariffs and the Big Beautiful Bullshit crap health coverage scare.

The tariffs royally fucked me over because I run a department that deals with critical components from overseas...
