It is a shame that so many dedicated MMA fighters are forced to endure such relentless punishment inside the Octagon. In truth though, it’s the way they train that often does the most damage. Repeated blows in sparring — even light ones — accumulate over the years, with thousands of impacts slowly taking their toll on the mind and body. Sean Strickland immediately comes to mind when I think of this.
Also, poor reffing and the absence of a proper catcher leave some fighters exposed to brutal, unnecessary post-concussive blows. Whether from their opponents, gravity, or both, the result is the same. Fighters like Dutch Warrior Overeem may be among those who suffered most from these egregious oversights. This is definitely something to consider.
And while I won’t shed tears over the hard realities of MMA and its potential impact brain health, I do sincerely wish that some of the brave but defensively vulnerable up-and-comers would consider the safer, smarter path offered by
