Hi folks. I'm looking to start a spreadsheet on fighting stats to analyze fighters. The problem is I'm terrible with excel but I have read fightnomics and I can appreciate what a powerful benefit it is to get the stats on paper. Does anyone else analyze fighters in this way and have any tips for pulling stats and what to look for? (obviously I the basic stats are covered in fightnomics but drilling down further the stats would be so much more useful).

Thanks in advance.

Personally, the stats on ufcstats.com are enough for me, but there are third party sites that provide in depth stats. I would recommend joining one of them rather than starting your own spreadsheet for time purposes.

Typically when breaking down a fight I will glance over both fighters pages on ufcstats.com before I begin watching film. This is so I have a general idea of how active each fighter is on the feet, or how easy they are to takedown, but you don’t want to put too much emphasis on stats alone because at the end of the day they are just elements of an entire fight.

Stats are better imo for betting on prop bets like takedowns or significant strikes landed rather than predictive of the actual fight outcome.

Thanks. Yeah ufcstats does cover the basics but edge is edge and sometimes I want to look a bit deeper. will look into alternative stat sites thanks.

Stats only tell so much … if one has fought the top competition - their stats will look worse then the guy beating cans

Trust your eyes

Don’t fall for prospects hype that you read about … bet what you know and what you’ve seen … too many undefeated ufc debuts gone wrong

If you’re making big bets - actually watch tape

What are you trying to assemble?

It's not that hard to learn to use excel.

Tell me what you're trying to do and I'll write the Excel for you.
