MMA has basically stopped evolving in the last 10 years

GSP got beat by Hendricks, who got beat by Lawler. GSP would not be champion today, probably not even in the top 5 WW. Takedown defense alone, is worlds apart from where it was 10 years ago, everybody just got better, and more well rounded. There isnt a champion from 10 years ago that would be champion now other than JJ, and that’s because he evolved with the sport.

I believe MMA is about as evolved as it is going to get to be honest. Also, in a sense I feel the ruleset has a lot to do with that. The guys were tougher in the no holds barred era. While on the other hand they were not as technically sound as fighters today. The exposure of the sport has a lot to do with how prepared or technical the fighters are today. There is lots of tape and many more people doing it to learn from. I really don't expect to see much more evolution. Though who knows maybe one day our Just Bleed Hero will come and start doing shit like this for real:

When you see Usman Nurmagomedov do question mark kicks as well as have near Olympic level wrestling and black belt level BJJ, not sure how you can say the sport has basically stopped evolving, same goes for machachev. Has it slowed from 90s and 2000s, of course! But they were still at the stage of perfecting style mixing and people who can do it all. Very rare to see very high level wrestling and jiujitsu combined together as well as they are now let alone a high level striking game 10 years ago. Back then I don’t think many world class wrestlers (like Bo) and high level kickboxers (Izzy, Alex p) were looking towards mma in their prime. I do believe like Rogan that hand to hand combat evolved more in the 90s and 2000s than in 3000 years before that.

I don’t post very often. The sport has evolved, but the evolution is slowing down. Khabib’s wrestling style was probably the most significant style change we’ve seen in the last 10 years.

10 years ago there was basically no Russian grappling, the overall level of grappling is light years ahead today, because everyone else has to learn from these guys to keep up with them, and also just to use their techniques, and that's just one facet of the game. Even Khabib sucked 10 years ago compared to his championship run, I don't get how people actually think the skills have stayed the same, it makes zero sense. Even just from going to the gym and doing grappling and striking classes, literally every month our coaches are showing us the new technique or the latest thing that guys are using to win fights, there's new developments all the time, never mind 10 freaking years.

HW’s has stop evolving. Every other weight class has been getting better

MMA has been an evolving sport & really only hit mainstream wit teh UFC, so we got an incredible influx of new fighters & gyms in which everyone evolved together for a very long time.

We've seen it sway back n forth in dominance with BJJ, then Anti-BJJ. Wrestling, then Anti-wresting. Strikers had to become more well rounded etc. For teh past 10 yearz or so, we've seen it all melt together into what can clearly be the most workable formulaz.

Point being, it makes sense that we wouldn't see these great leaps in our sport, now that so many people are now entering teh game & sharpening each otherz iron. n stuff.

Eh. I'd say no to both. Prime vs prime Weidman would be very tough for Izzy.
<{walkerwhut}> chris's last real dominant notable win was against Old
washed up Vitor in 2015 !!

{<jordan} the hate is real Go look at weidman resume right now
and tell me that again with a straight face.<OKC16>

Anderson and Izzy in their peak prime would toy with chris.
anderson might struggle on the ground but on the feat .
The question is how would Prime Chael vs prime weidman Go.

could've saved yourself a few minutes making your junk post of you know what prime means, wtf lol.

Your examples show that it peaked 10+ years ago and MMA has failed to maintain that level.

No arguments from me

Although certain divisions like LHW and HW and got much worse
