MMA forgotten stories thread

Rampage was fighting marvin Eastman in king of the cage,I believe it was his 3rd pro fight. Ken shamrock who was commentating was remarking how he thought even tho rampage lost he showed alot of heart and could be something one day

Following his loss at UFC 7, Ryan Parker was slated to compete at a future event, but a change in the contract wording that sought to disallow throat strikes apparently caused him to exit the competition, feeling that his technique would be overly limited. Currently he has a blog, Ryukuma, where he talks about the history of various Okinawa Karate styles.”

Here is a video of Parker getting kicked in the groin, punched in the spine and throat, etc … Much like the video he sent to the UFC that got him his spot at UFC 7 :

I'd let him fight too after seeing that ahahah

During his celebrity boxing match against todd bridges, vanilla ice had tank abbott as a corner man.

“MMAMemories.com: You were cornerman for Vanilla Ice when he faced Todd Bridges in Celebrity Boxing on FOX. How did this come about?

Tank Abbott: “Me and Vanilla Ice had a mutual friend. And put us together. And he wanted me to be in his corner. Nothing was going on so I went and did it for him.”

MMAMemories.com: But he didn’t fare to well did he?

Tank Abbott: “I think he was in a lil bit of shock. I don’t think he knew what he was getting into. Before the fight I was trying, Come on, man. Let’s get yourself right. And he was kinda like, Ha ha, jokin’ around a lot. I had to slap him in the face a few times, like, You gotta be ready to go to war, you know? Let’s go. And he was kinda like, Ha ha, just goofin’ off. Like he was gonna go out and do a concert or something. And I think that’s probably what everybody saw. His lack of seriousness.”

MMAMemories.com: Did he go the distance?

Tank Abbott: “Yeah, he went the distance. He just ran the whole time though.”

In the documentary “Rites of Passage”, Kevin Randleman revealed that he had been sexually molested as a child and attempted suicide as a result. “
That DVD was cool for the o.g.s like ke who would buy any mma related thing that came out. Times was lean back then.

According to Zane Frazier , he had been teaching classes for Frank Dux and Dux never paid him. Frank Dux disputes that account and says that Frazier sucker punched him while wearing brass knuckles. Never the less, this fight happened and was witnessed by Rorion Gracie and Art Davie after attending the U.S. karate championships where they were scouting for potential fighters for the UFC. Zane was then invited to participate in UFC 1.
Frank dux lies about his lies lol

Many people know that Dana White wanted Gina Carano to fight in the UFC before Ronda Rousey was a thing. But that actually wasn't the first WMMA bout considered in UFC history. Much earlier in the 2000nds (UFC 51 to be more excact), the UFC considered putting on Erica Montoya vs Shelby Walker (girlfriend of Denis Kang whom later comitted suicide).

The reason for this was the hype Erica Montoya was gathering. Undefeated, attractive and BJJ world champion. She was even in one of the UFC games, UFC Sudden Impact!

Yeah Kind of makes you feel old doesnt it? I remember buying every mma related vhs/dvd from 1992 on until i realized it was impossible to buy them all so i gave up
Around 2009 I was unemployed For a bit and fell out of the habit of buying. Too easy to just use fight pass at this point

I remember denis kang was never the same after that happened. He was a rising star ahead of that

That fight sucked for Nog. He came in in amazing shape and it looked like he had the upper hand in that fight. He was boxing Fedor up, then the cut happens, the fight gets called and Fedor batters h ok m next time.

It's weird how one small error can lead to drastically different results.
Nog was lucky hed just fought Kharitonov for 15 hard mins while Fedor was fresh as a daisy aftee smoking Ogawa (sp)[/QUOTE]

I remember someone saying on one of those UFC round tables back in the day all the American guys went down to Brazil for one of those value tudo tournaments and all the Brazilians were greasing up so Coleman walked into their locker room grabbed the tub of oil and went back to his locker room

Just read the recent Lee Murray piece from the summer from bloody elbow. Interesting in depth piece with some gems in there but most of it is regurgitated stuff that everybody knew, plus its way too long than it needed to be.

That's a very Japanese/pro wrestling mentality.

Frankie Edgar was rejected when he tried out for season five of The Ultimate Fighter. Edgar tried out in front of Dana White and Joe Silva, but was not selected to be on the show. A month later the UFC contacted Edgar and asked if he would accept a fight with Tyson Griffin at UFC 67. He accepted and won by unanimous decision.
That's better than being in the fuckin house for 6 weeks. Who won season 5?

Lorenz Larkin tried out for season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter but never even made it past the first round of tryouts.

Larkin : "I believe that was 2010 or early 2011. It was back when they were going to have a 185 [pound] and 205 season and they kind of just canned it. They just did 185. They cancelled the 205 season."

"According to Larkin, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. He acknowledges he didn't get past the first round of tryouts, which consists of "rolling", or submission grappling sparring. The upside, however, is Larkin was able to give UFC President Dana White a piece of his mind when he saw the UFC boss at a Fighters Summit while still signed to Strikeforce."

Larkin : "It was cool because I got to tell Dana my whole little story about it. I saw him at the Fighters Summit. It was not last year. It was the year before that. I just pulled him aside. When I tried out, I didn't make it past the first round and this guy I knocked out in 40 seconds in my first pro fight made it on to the later interviews and things like that. Yeah, man. I was sour."

"And what did he say to the UFC head honco when he finally had him as an audience?"

Larkin : "'I thought you were a dickhead'," Larkin admits. Larkin also confessed to White he had an attitude of 'F the UFC' when he found out not only had he not made it, but someone he had knocked out had. "I was just mad. I told him I was just mad, but maybe it was for the best because it kind of lit a fire underneath my ass and I was just like 'I'm going to get there just though fighting'. "It just made me say 'I'm going to fight and they're going to want to put me in the UFC'," he said.

Other Fighters that were rejected from The Ultimate Fighter include Clay Guida, Tyron Woodley, Denis Kang, Anthony Johnson, Jon Fitch, Eddie Alvarez and Roger Huerta.
