MMA forgotten stories thread

Kimbo Slice, whom became popular from the backyard fight videos he was in that were posted on youtube, had a protege named Ray who began making fight videos of his own that were also released on youtube. In numerous videos, Ray, like Kimbo, demolished all his opponents in fights..That was until one fighter came along and beat him. Twice. The fighter who beat him went on to fight in mma and is now currently fighting in the UFC. That fighter is Jorge Masvidal. videos below :

first encounter :

The rematch

Just watched the first one, better than some ufc fights, really exciting. Never knew this about Jorge!

Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar wore size 4xl mma gloves. This is the same size gloves Hong Man Choi wore.

"Brock Lesnar is only the second man in the history of combat sports in Nevada to wear size 4XL gloves, the other being South Korean giant Choi Hong-man, who is 7-3 and 367 pounds."
-Dave Meltzer "

Carwin confirming he wore a sixe 4 xl glove :

Great posts! Where are you getting all this from? Or are you an mma historian?

Aren't there a pretty crazy story about Dick Vrij and some other fighter? about being bouncers and one of them getting killed.
I think it's kind of recent as well

LA Giant Corey Peterson

LA giant was a 7 foot tall guy with sketchy tats to say the least, and got beat the fuck out of by Sergei Kharitonov and was never seen again.

lol germany vs USSR without the part where Germany was winning in the beginning.

Anderson and his people ducked Weidman for almost 2 years. Then we found out why.

Lol. The title is forgotten stories not forgotten made up delusions.

Weidman became #1 contender July 11th 2012 and was out with an injury for the next 6 months before coming back to fight Anderson July 6th 2013. Your math is horrible since thats less than a calender year in total. 6 month of which Weidman couldn't fight.

Cool story though bro. Way to follow the golden rule of not letting facts get in the way of a good story, lol.

lol at @lifelessheap. poor guy's fallacy got destroyed hard.

"When Royce Gracie could no longer continue in the UFC 3 tournament, Ken Shamrock, who had blown out his knee PRIOR to the tournament but had become obsessed with Gracie, won his first two fights. Instead of going into the finals, he bowed out, claiming he didn't want to risk hurting his knee. He said the only reason he even competed that night was to avenge his loss to Gracie, which by that point was no longer possible because Royce could not continue. His adopted father, Bob Shamrock, was backstage yelling at him for not going out for the finals. The two didn't speak for a time when Ken refused to go out for a final fight that he most likely would have won."
Ken was always not fighting when they needed him most

the following is an excerpt from the book Pride Fc : Secret Files...where witnesses other then chute boxe members claimed Charles Bennett didn't ko Wanderlei Silva :

"To put an end to the rumors of Krazy Horse KOing Wanderlei backstage, he didn't. He got choked out by Cristiano Marcelo backstage and got up all wobbly and began throwing punches wildly and caught Wanderlei off guard. He did not knock out Wanderlei."
They asked wanderlei about this recently and he said no comment and smiled almost like he admitted it did hapoen

Silva's manager ducked Weidman hard for almost two years. They were spooked.
Have you seen Weidman's record pre-Silva? His best win was against Munoz. Neither Silva or his team would have been spooked.

lol at @lifelessheap. poor guy's fallacy got destroyed hard.

Nice join date noob. Sorry I am bringing up facts only hard core fans would know.

It is a fact that Silva simply did not want to fight Weidman. He made a bunch of different excuses.............. even when there was nothing but rematches to be made. Andy was ducking the #1 contender for a long time.

Enjoy your ignorance.

lol. what has join date got to do with anything?

the other guy simply pointed out that teh chris only became contender less than a year before they fought, so how can silva duck him for two years like you claimed?

it's simple really, unless you're an idiot, which you are; so i really don't blame you.

That's it for today. If you guys want more, just ask so i know im not wasting my time. I know a lot of it are long reads

all good ones, actually; so thank you.
maybe some of the not-so-long-reads for those who aren't into that?

personallly, i always liked the don frye-wanderlei chewing gum story.

From a past thread I made:

“...Seat 103 DD, fairly close to the cage and id say most of the notable attendees, as well as the fighters, came within a handshake away from me throughout the night.

Josh Samman was seated about 20ft away from me for most of the fight. He was dressed nicely and has grown his hair pretty long and wears it down his back... There was a group of guys next to me that throughout the event would keep yelling at him "Hey Fabio!" He ignored them and stayed cool. Near to the end of the event, one of those guys was standing next to me at the rail, again yelling at Samman "Hey Fabio!" ... So i asked him, "why is everyone calling him Fabio, do you know who that is?" He clearly had no idea and was just going along with the other guys. I told him i was pretty sure that was Josh Samman from TUF. He turned and told the other guys and then one of them yells out "JOSH!" To which Josh responded to by coming up to the rail and slapping fives with everyone and even taking pictures. Whats funny is that i was observing Josh the whole time, admiring how he had handled the situation and not let drunk idiots break his cool but i think he thought i was maybe checking him out or something because we had a few awkward meetings of the eyes throughout the night. I think i made him uncomfortable, lol.”

RIP Josh Samman.

what an amazing thread we've got, here- so awesome

a few guys who have been sorta enigmatic to me, over the years

Montanha Silva

images

000039b.jpg

Amazonian giant- dude was over 7', iirc

obviously fought some big names in mma/KB- Butterbean, Hoost, Schilt, without too much success

his wiki is in Portuguese- (that's Japanese, Mike)

I remember him fighting Josh Barnett in some wacky org where I couldn't decide if it was mma or wrasslin. Something happens towards the end where Montanha punches the ref, and Josh hops onto the man's back for a RNC- sorta reminded me of when all those Japanese fellows had to subdue Giantu Silva when he grabbed his wooden plank and sought revenge

Carlos Toyota
Carlos-Toyota.jpg

big HW who KO'd Hong Man Choi, and fought in Japan a lot

remember searching google for info about him and coming up dry

who tf is this guy?

Eldari Kurtanidze

small fellow who lost to Ol' Iron Head in Pride
hqdefault.jpg

he was like 5'8" as a HW

↑↑this post was more forgotten and less stories, but hey

MMA legend and icon Royce Gracie popped for steroids. Don't see many people bring that up when they talk about his legacy.

Now comes the lurid news that the lanky Brazilian has tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid. Forget about the idea that there was a urinalysis mix-up, Marx Brothers-style: his levels of the substance were more than 25 times what could be considered normal in an adult male.
