MMA Eras

2009 thru 2016 was the golden age of mma. Those 7 years it was at its all around best

I respectfully disagree.

Can't be the golden age with no Prude FC. Pride FC was the peak of fighting/fight entertainment.

By 09 MMA started becoming more sport than combat but the matchups and elite level was very good

But it was. Yeah Pride ruled 03 thru 08. Itvwas a good era. Bit it wasnt top to bottom the best like 09 thru 16. You had best of everything those 7 years.

End of Fedor reign
Brock
GSP
The rise and rule of Bones
MM domination
Aldo and Andy
UbeeReem strike force dominance
Ronda
Much more

Yes 03 to 08 had Fedor , Chuck , Hughes prime but thst era was a notch below imo

All valid points.

I just put a bit more value in the fact that in the 2 premier leagues the fighting ethos was prevalent in all the top fighters and in the fact that those 2 Premier organizations were juggernauts that merged and we saw many top matchups that were highly sought after.

IMO the golden age was the last year of pride up until a little after the strikforce merger.

Both Pride and strikeforce had tons of good fighters and they all merged into the ufc and we saw so many good matches, again Between top guys that were in it to fight.

After 2013is and definitely after 2014 the culture in mma firmly shifted to being more sport than combat.

In doing so the competitors got better at winning the sport and left behind the idea of winning the fight.

I prefer seeing 2 guys go at it while being technically proficient in execute the techniques (especially offensive techniques) rather than seeing 2 guys competing to not lose.
