This felt...hollow? Still enjoyable to watch and follow along, but the newer characters didn't resonate here. Not even Grace even though Atwell looked incredible. For such a big event movie, it just felt flat. Movie NEEDED Ilsa. Also, Angela Bassett for President in everything.

Hollow but still enjoyable is very apt. I would even say some fans are starting to get worn out and a little annoyed by it (just like what happened with the F&F series).

Yeah, I think that's the case. You can only do the big stuff so much before people just become numb to it. Movie definitely needs the nuance that made the franchise great. Should've just gone back to the Fallout playbook. The Entity as a villain didn't hit the same as Owen, Lane, or Walker.

Yeah, I've heard it referred to as "Exposition Dump: The Movie"

Haven't even seen the first part yet. Good movies, but they kind of tapped me out after what? Part 6....7? I don't know, I lost track.

Killing off Illsa to swap with Grace wasnt wisest move. Ferguson killed the role. Atwell is a level below in this.

Critics reviews have the film at 80% in RT while audience gives it a 93% so far.

Do you feel like reviews of movies have been much more positive since covid started and attendance drop? They always seem high to me now

Yeah, I mean you could've just replaced Grace with Ilsa and the movie would've been 10x better because of the rapport. Even with little to do, Ilsa had a presence because she was an equal to Ethan.

I don't have any data to corroborate your presumption (or maybe conspiracy?). From my observance, most of the films that are of quality get positive reviews and most of the films that are not good get bad reviews. RT is a movie review aggregator, their score is specifically more like approval rating, not an indication of their quality rating.

Final Reckoning has 80% approval rating, meaning 80% of the critics found the movie to be positive but their quality rating varies. Take my review and some of the posters' reviews in here. I didn't love the movie, there are several things I didn't like about it, but I still gave it a passing score.

But if you have specific examples of movies post COVID that you feel that don't deserve their positive reviews, list them and we'll take a look at it.

Thanks for the response bud and for clarifying RT. Didn't know that. I will give it some thought and let you know. Maybe just seems that way.

Yeah it might seem that way, especially here in Mayberry if that is your basis for your presumption. We here tend to celebrate movies if they're good while there are so many bad movies we just don't care enough to make a thread about it or update that thread when it turns out to be bad or just mid.

It's 3 hours of non stop action with little meaningful dialouge or actual acting. It's literally just action. It's a fun ride if you just watched the 1st part sn know what's happening if not your just watching 3hrs of action scenes.

I like Atwell but replacing Illsa was just un needed n lessened the meaning of the character as with almost all action there's no way to build up her character. So should gone with the known Fergouson who works great with Cruise.

Just read Fergouson didn't want a big part and didn't want to be in the last one. Apparently it takes forever to film and she wanted to be able to do other shit. .makes sense as most films take 3 months while Cruise takes forever .

Word of mouth will kill this one at the box office. Everyone thinks it's worse than part one, which already underperformed.

I knew it wasn't good as soon as the access media types like collider who love everything were like "It's a fun movie, not one of the best Mission Impossibles but overall I enjoyed it. It's way too long though"

That, and apparently she was written the same as everyone else outside of Tom Cruise. A paper character that was there just because. And she didn't want to give up other roles for that.

DR was a big step down from Fallout, but it at least still felt like a legit M:I movie. TFR is pure spoof and a gigantic misfire. It has great action and great stunts, but the actual story is fucking idiotic.
