Throwback Mirko Crocop vs Wanderlei Silva

The fight went down exactly how everyone thought it would, Silva always game but Crocop was to big, strong, fast and technical for him.
actually wand was heavier than cro cop for this fight. just styles make fights, Mirko was throwing straight punches while Wand was using haymakers. there was some great footwork as well combined with kicks. i think wand was trying to rest on the ground didnt expect mirko to follow him down and with gnp. great fight definetely

krazy horse KO was before Arona 2 fight on NYE in 2005. but yes, after hunt to me wand was never the same. he admitted he got KOd few times in that fight
Oh damn, thanks for clearing that up, my bad!

In before kids come with the standard “those guys were crap, as soon as they came to the UFC they got exposed” verbal diarrhea that is popular on rhese boards.
the evidence speaks for itself.

You canr just make this thread referencing these two and then only post the 2nd fight. There were two fights. The first has the most intense staredown of all times. You guys are dicks! fuckin dicks!

Straight left, middle left kick, high left kick. Somehow almost every PRIDE fighter was just standing in front of CroCop instead of circling to the left non-stop.

Unfortunately I think wand was already declining pretty rapidly at that point, but this was definitely the last nail in the coffin for him. He already had that war with mark hunt, got wrestlefucked by arona, and knocked out by crazy horse the same night he fought marco, which is wild to think about. But damn cro cop was dominant in that tournament

Marco who? Marco Hunt? Marco Arona?

His vision was compromised to the point that they really should have stopped it , it’s not like he was going to come back and win n the Crocop fight and then fight Barnett later that evening with one eye

This happened back when MMA fighters were actually tough and before every fan and commentator screamed CTE the second someone gets hit. Wanderlei absolutely would've fought Barnett later that evening with one eye had he beaten Cro Cop. One of the fights that put him on the map was when the ref stopped his fight with Artur Mariano during an IVC tournament, his eye was split open and swollen and Mariano was telling the ref to stop the fight during the fight, but Wanderlei just kept walking him down looking to take his head off. He was an animal, and while Cro Cop won that fight in the OWGP, Wanderlei got to showcase his legendary toughness once again. Hell, he probably landed his best punch of the whole fight right before he got knocked out. Wanderlei was kill or be killed and I love that PRIDE let that fight go until it had a proper finish, especially considering that the final match was marred by Barnett tapping after Cro Cop's knuckle went into his eye, thereby robbing us of a second LHK or at least a more definitive finish to the tournament.

Wanderlei and Yuki Nakai are the two legendary one-eyed warriors from back when the Just Bleed God reigned supreme.

Na the Wand from their first fight was much better.

I think that it was more that the Cro Cop from their first fight was much worse. Wanderlei was the reigning PRIDE MW champ and a very experienced MMA fighter. Cro Cop was a kickboxer who was fighting his fourth ever MMA fight. And Wand was his first opponent worth a shit coming off of a 20-second, one-strike KO of Yuji Nagata and an embarrassment of a non-fight with Nobuhiko Takada. His only real MMA fight was against Fujita, but that was like Masvidal's KO of Askren: He just timed a TD, cut him with one knee, and that was that. He had no actual experience fighting a skilled fighter under MMA rules. And even that first fight was fought under special "K-1 versus PRIDE" rules with five 3-minute rounds, time limits for ground action, and an automatic draw ruling if the fight ended without a finish.

The difference in the second fight was that Cro Cop was now himself very experienced and he had phenomenal TDD, so he could strike freely without being worried about getting put on his back, which was the exact opposite of their first fight, where Cro Cop was extremely timid and barely threw anything because he was worried about leaving himself open to a TD.

Fedrigo always had this idiotic idea to make one of his lhw a HW as they did not have one. Worst was Murilo at that but Wanderlei the same. For this tourney they made a science project out of Wand and pumped him full with absurd amounts of roids. He was big but lost his speed and cardio. Easy prey for Crocop. Crocops finals win or Alex Emelianenko was more impressive.

Oh, Ninja just got fat. He didn't add a single ounce of muscle, he just grew a belly and got murked by Kharitonov. Wanderlei, though, was still very fast and very crisp with his strikes, as evidenced by his destruction of Fujita the previous event. He was bigger, sure, but he was still a terrifying striker to have coming at you.

The fight went down exactly how everyone thought it would

Not everyone. I remember being on here at the time and so many people were sure that Wanderlei was going to "expose" Cro Cop, who everyone always talked about as being weak when fighters are aggressive and bully him. Tons of people were sure that Wanderlei would overwhelm Cro Cop, that Cro Cop would shut down, and that Wanderlei would either win a decision the way that Mark Hunt beat Cro Cop the previous year or that he would catch Cro Cop with something and knock him out. Not only did that not happen, but Cro Cop was actually the aggressor and didn't back down an inch, which made the victory that much sweeter.

Straight left, middle left kick, high left kick. Somehow almost every PRIDE fighter was just standing in front of CroCop instead of circling to the left non-stop.

Did you not watch the fight? Wanderlei was circling to the left. Cro Cop LHK'd him anyway. Same with Aleks Emelianenko, who was circling away when Cro Cop LHK'd him.

And even when people had their guard up because they knew the LHK was incoming, he'd still hit them, as he hit Ron Waterman...

...and Hiromi Amada...

This is why Cro Cop was so scary: You knew what he was going to do and yet he'd still find a way to land that kick. And it helped tremendously that his straight left was so nasty, because he could hide the LHK behind the straight left and have people thinking it's a punch, which they'd try to slip, only to slip right into the LHK. This is how he dropped Mark Hunt in their K-1 fight, who slipped what he thought was an incoming punch (notice how Cro Cop probes with the jab to make him think one-two) only to eat a LHK...

...and it's how he knocked out Igor Vovchanchyn, who was also expecting a straight left (notice how Cro Cop backs him up with straights to get him thinking about his hands) but got an LHK instead...

Cro Cop's savagery was exceeded only by how tactical he was with his attacks. He wasn't just a brute with huge power, he had so many set-ups and knew exactly what to do to enable him to land whatever he wanted to land, be it a straight-left, a left uppercut, an LHK, an LMK, a RLK. Still the most impressive striker I've ever seen.

The one with Igor is the best one. The slightest pause/hesitation and he launched the fuckin Polaris on poor Igor.

Thought he was dead after that LHK

Yup, so slick. Not even the commentators were fast enough. "Left, another left...OH, A HIGH KICK, AND DOWN GOES IGOR!" Cro Cop was the only one in the building who knew the LHK was coming at that moment, even though everyone, Igor included, knew that it was coming.

People at the time were talking about how with that gash in the side of his head it looked like the Axe Murderer got axe murdered 😲

And Cro Cop's LHK was so nasty that he split multiple people's heads open. Wanderlei there was split open like he got hit with an axe, poor Dos Caras was pouring blood down his stupid mask after Cro Cop kicked him in the head, even Fedor was split open just from a grazing LHK. I mean, Fedor beat Cro Cop but he looked like he got run over by a truck.

If Cro Cop hit you with anything, it was devastating. Even if he just grazed you, you weren't escaping unscathed. And even if you beat him, like Fedor and Gonzaga did, you were the one who'd be wearing the damage the next week or so. A very special fighter.

Macro "polo" Crocop, created a brazilian with a hole in the middle.

Is that from the first fight?

What a lot of people seem to forget is the first fight between these guys at Pride 20 when CC first went to MMA, which was a draw because of the special rules, but would have been a clear win by Wandy. The first fight in hindsight showed how much CC had improved; he did not have the ability to dominate Wandy like he did in the second fight before he improved his MMA game.

I think this might be the most dominating performance against an elite opponent in MMA history.

Wand could hit nothing but air and was utterly shut down and destroyed.

maybe true, but still lost to the fighter he wanted to beat the most, fedor.
