Every loss Mir has in the past like 6 or 7 years was from huge dudes pressing him against the cage and having there way with him.

I get it about Overeem's clinch, but why does everyone discredit grapple-heavy clinching and tiring Overeem out? He's been fading in stand ups lately, and defensive grappling is more tiring.

Because in order to force Overeem to use defensive grappling, that means Mir will have to ATTACK in the clinch. He just doesn't do that. He doesn't attack with grappling in the clinch, in the Barnett fight he was landing punches, but once he got to the cage Barnett just fucked his world.

The same thing with Carwin, he pressed Carwin and even initiated the clinch, got reversed then destroyed.

He has to pummel for underhooks, and try to utilize some greco wrestling and hand fighting if he wants to do what you think he can do. Which is something he's never done before in his career.

So kind of like what gsp used against BJ to tire out his arms im assuming is what ur saying?
the main problem with that is the considerable strength advantage overeem has and how good he is in the clinch, wont be as effective for mir, his mind set should be to avoid the clinch at all costs cuse chances are he will be the one whos on the defensive end once it happens

It could be a good game plan if they opponent is excellent in the clinch game. But Mir has been TKO'd by Carwin, Barnett, Nog dominated him in the clinch, Cormier dominated him in the clinch. Its just not a position he's good at. And Overeem is very dangerous in the clinch, put that together with Mirs ability to absorb damage. Not a good night for Mir.

Best chance for Mir is to do the opposite

The clinch is the last place Mir wants to be with Overeem.

Mir would get bullied and destroyed in the clinch. He doesn't have the wrestling to take Overeem down nor keep him down. I think his only hope is to outbox him and hope the claims about his glass jaw are true. Since Overeem is the superior striker this is also not a winning strategy.

Why not? Because he's NEVER done that before. Carwin, Brock, Barnett ...hell, even LHW Brandon Vera bullied him in the clinch.

Not even taking into consideration that Overeem has manhandled some of the biggest HWs in the UFC in the clinch in Bigfoot and Travis Browne.

All the signs point to Mir needing to avoid the clinch like the plague or nullify the clinch by pulling guard when Reem gets it.

You forgot DC and Nog! Lol, if this fight gets to the clinch I see it ending badly and sadly for Mir. Im hoping he can stick and move. He's talked shit for years about Overeem not being a true Heavy. I'd like to see him back it up. My hopes are for a ground war!

You may think I'm absolutely crazy but I'm going with Frank Mir by KO/TKO in Round one or two.

This is less crazy than Mir dominating the clinch. Mir has heart at least, which Overeem does not.

If Mir does attempt to use the clinch it will be uglier than what Josh Barnett did to him...
