Obviously the guy can punch (10 of 14 wins by T/KO coming into tonight) but I didn't realize he had that kind of power.

To land such a strong punch from a pretty short distance while backing up is impressive.

Certainly Werdum helped things out by rushing in and having his chin up, but I still think I underrated Miocic's punching ability.

It doesn't take much when your opponent runs face first into your fist

Yeah his punches are sharp and effective. Fast and accurate , the new champs run should be fun

He had momentum on his side with the way Werdum was pursuing him, but getting power on it in that situation is a matter of timing and technique. You have to plant and execute at the right time.

One of the many reasons Stipe is the one of the best strikers we've ever seen at the higher weights.

That was a hell of a punch. Right on the button, perfect timing, short distance.

Beautiful to watch.

He showed a similar kind of timing on the counter in the Roy Nelson fight, complete with the same circling. I could see him timing it up the same way tonight. He really delivered, he's a tough fuckin fight

Stipe is a fantastic boxer with a ton of power from short distances and awkward angles. He's powerful, fast, precise.

Kinda reminded me of Chuck/Randy, altho Chuck planted his feet. But Couture came in wild, got clipped once, then got hit again and went down while chasing the fuck out of him for some reason

He has power like all HW's, but the thing that stands out with Stipe is he is really fast for HW, his hands and fast and crisp for HW. he is very fit too. he was such a bad matchup for Werdum... who does not have good takedowns.

He was very efficient with his energy too.

Happy for him and his fans. He definitely delivered tonight.

You really think moving forward provides KO energy from what was almost a hook? Get real. Forward "momentum" isn't a fraction of the power lost from a planted punch.

Speed = power.

Good point you made.

Seemed a like a cake walk. Stipe the better striker no doubt, congrats to him.

Miocic vs. Overeem should be fun. Should be a technical match that ends in a flash, one way or the other.

It was a straight right hand across the chin and Werdum ran right into it. Your post isn't even completely coherent, but the technique and forward momentum of Werdum both played a big factor in how devastating it was. He went straight to sleep.

reminded me alot of liddell, great KO
