Military Roll Call! Veterans, GTFIH!

@omawho402 That reminds me, a guy I went to HS with joined in 2003 as an 0311 with a security forces option. Did PRP at Kings Bay and when he finally hit the fleet his battalion was part of a MEU that went to Djbouti/Kuwait. He got out in 07. That's right, an active duty 0311 2003-2007 and he never spent one day in Afghan or Iraq.
He also said that failing to get a top secret clearance actually helped your chances of getting FAST (what the recruiter talked him into) over PRP and 8th and I.
Were you at Kings Bay or Bangor?

History sounds similar to mine, I ended up not deploying at all even though I was infantry during 9/11 and the following years. I was at Bangor for about 2 years and 4 months. I loved it there, some of the best times in my life

How were you treated once you eventually hit the fleet?

Pretty good, I was a Corporal so that definitely helped. Still, they light-heartedly had some jokes for me here and there and I had the utmost respect for everyone that had been to war. I was a small guy, but I held my own even with the wrestling matches. I worked hard and stayed under the radar, then made my departure.

Honestly the hardest part of being there was my marriage lmao

It's an inert display that was headed to SHOT Show. An acquaintance knows the Saab Bofors rep. There wasn't a requirement to declare it. Upon discovery, he presented the paperwork certifying it was inert, and it was corroborated by a TSA Explosives Expert. Still, they disallowed it in cargo.

Probably something a person might want to declare to save time

Agree. While TSA is flipping out of this thing that turns out to be nothing, God only knows what's making it through....

An old unit of mine was frequently asked to provide "red team" actors on security audits.. that's all I can really say on that.

But (personal story): getting berated by TSA for my full sized tube of toothpaste in carry on at a podunk 2 flight/day airport only to find they missed my subordinate's 8 inch fixed blade steel deck knife in his carry on bag is something I'm more than happy to tell wide and far...
