Social Military having Recruitment Woes

Indirectly related, college applications are down as well.

When I put these 2 things together, a decline in college applications and a decline in people willing to enter the military, it paints a grim picture about future success. Because education and military supremacy are the backbone of our nation's position at the front of the pack. If trend was exaggerated, we're looking at future generations that aren't as educated and aren't as capable of defending themselves.

And when that's the case, you have to start wondering about who we'll be electing into public office.

Who knew that a nation of fatasses would have trouble finding suitable recruits?
It’s really sad. All the young people that come to Japan, even the normal ones, are pretty much all fat and and lazy slobs. Argued with one that, yes a certain hill can be bikes up. Had to do it myself on my crappy steel bike.
Also it seems that tons of young people are incapable of push-ups.
Seems most of the youth just plays video games and or watches tv all day

They'll cover most of it, but not all.

My old boss was an army ranger (actual 75th Regiment). He fucked up his shoulders during his service and VA refused to pay for his care saying it wasn't occupational. Good thing he had a great paying consultant gig to actually pay for surgeries and medications. You can guess how supportive he is when people ask him about joining the military.

If Uncle Sam constantly fucks current or retire members of the military, why would people want to join? Nobody gets a job so they can get shit on.
Yep. My dad who has a Purple Heart and was a green beret, had to fight just to get hearing aides. And he just got them last year. VA fought him tooth and nail too. My little brother also hates the VA. The aftercare for the military is garbage.

Too many people were going to college and no one wants to serve in a peacetime military.

Current state of the country as a whole is bad. I think the Army not being able to recruit as well is just sign of the times.

Generally army gets going moment a threat appears.

When ukr started amount of people joining terroritorial defence groups in poland went up like crazy.

Probably evolutionary defence reaction

I would guess the bigger problem is a loss in faith in the government to wield the military appropriately. Lots of people don't want to die for some politician's pet cause that has no bearing on the US' safety or its core principles in any true sense.
Pretty sure it's more the U.S. has a stupidly large standing military, which is quite different from most of the nation's history.

Presumably the same pool of applicants we already work with, so to speak? It's not like congress is full of academic scholarships from Harvard and people who enlisted in the military for a full career.

The Army could pay more and take care of their veterans. Stop bitching about problems they make themselves.

As a retired veteran... THIS^

We just saw every member of the GOP vote against a bill that would help veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange back in Vietnam and burn pits.

Why would anyone join if you're going to get stabbed in the back because someone on Capitol Hill thinks that you don't deserve to be taken care of for what happens to you in active service to your country?

The Army literally can not do those things. They don’t set pay which is way it’s the same base pay for all ranks in each branch of the military. They also don’t take care of veterans as that falls under the purview of the VA

I know. Everyone knows what I meant.

What did you mean? Congress?

Also they were offering 60k to new recruits the beginning of this year. That blows my mind that they couldn’t meet quota

In 2002 dollars, 60k isn't enough for me to murder brown people, carry radioactive waste barehanded, and come home to the garbage I saw at my local VA as a medic. Never ever.

I am not saying I don't have a price. I have a number for which I'll put a missile on a wedding with my own finger. 60k ain't it though.

Another big issue is the Genesis (that's what it's called) system they use for medical history at MEPS now. It's apparently a LOT harder to hide things. I think ADD medication is an auto DQ and back when I joined in 03 they just took your word for it but now they WILL find out about stuff like that.

My friend's stepson got a waiver for it. Minimum was to be off of meds for a year, but he hadn't taken anything for quite some time. My friend talked him out of it, though.

That's another thing. The multi-generational pipeline of service is drying up, too.

Make America great again!
