Mike Tyson should retire

He's got two moves left: 1) fight his brother 2) fight for an actual world title against any CW who is willing to put up with him for a pay day.

He could also call out Joe Biden, but I don't think Jake will ever be ready for what Irish Joe brings.

As far as I can make out, there are no more big profile youtubers or washed legends with huge names to fight.

Conor was an idiot and I believe signed a 8-fight contract not too long ago. Unless it had an expiration clause that is ending soon, Dana will not allow one of his milk cows get beat over someone he personally hates even if it would make lots of money. Corporate would have to negotiate that one and they might depending on the how the Tyson numbers went. WWE is going to netflix and they might be open to a similar deal.

What if he fought Canelo?
That's exactly what would solidify his further downfall. And the downfall of boxing, in general.

The only positively impactful thing for Jake's boxing career that he could, and should do after tonight, is fight a single sport boxer that is within a 5 year age difference with a similar, yet less diluted, pro record.

Do that or get the fuck out.

The Perry fight proved Jake could no longer sell PPVs, the Fury fight showed he's not on the level he thinks he is, and this fight showed that his days of fighting wasked up fighters, from any sport, have run their course.

Legitimize yourself or follow Logan's path.

Whilst I agree with everything you've said, the sport of boxing appears so non-legit regardless of Jake's involvement that I think his actions are neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.. The sport needs saving and he is but a drop in that ocean.

Yeah, I thought that, too. Someone like Masvidal (a typical Jake opponent--old, retired, smaller MMA guy) would be a big step down as far as the attention/money it would bring. Conor is about the only big-named washed fighter remaining that might bring a big pay day. And he might drag Jake along 2 or 3 years and never fight.

Nah him and Eric Silva are just getting started, give them some time to develop.
Along with the Fighter Kevin Lee, wherever he is. I thought he was making a comeback. He's still only like 31--just needs time! He'd be perfect for Jake: smaller, washed, not a good striker, gasses almost as fast as a 58-year old Tyson.

So true, and that's why MMA, until proven otherwise, is the superior product - at least 95% of the time.

Boxing has always been a sport full of padded records that produce very few legit dynamos.

However, Jake takes that to an entirely different level. He thrives on his his own non-sport fanbase, while he grabbed a part of the MMA fanbase, lightly sucked the teet of the Fury fanbase, then went full tilt on boxings old heads that hoped for a small dose of Tyson's glory days.

His marketing prowess is damn near second to none; his career in combat sports has quickly become a fucking joke.

Netflix will probably never touch him again, and he will never sell another PPV. Ironically, and most likely, unless it's against Canello. Even then it would be a hard fight to sell.

While I agree that he's only a drop in the ocean, he just created the largest ripple the sport has ever seen.

He would've had a more positive impact on the sport by simply promoting Taylor vs Serrano 2, with Barrios vs Ramos as the co-main than further damaging the sport by following those fights with the travesty that was Paul vs Tyson.

Couple that with the extreme issues that Netflix encountered by not being prepared to cater to up to half a billion streams after roughly 11 months of preparation, and...

I mean, where do we go from here?

Times a changing and people will like social media circus more whatever the next one may be than actual boxing. These Paul guys been around a while now as well as Conor/Floyd, and i think less people are familiar with actual fighters today than when i was young. Biev/Bivol should have been a pretty big deal but i had to explain to every young guy i know who they were. Old heads my age only knew about Anthony Joshua, thinking he was a world beater because he beat Francis Nganou -who they also only know thru grapevine as hanging with Fury. But everyone knows or heard of Conor and the Paul bros -sucks but just the way it is

This also speaks massively to the state of boxing.

Why don't you think Netflix will touch him again?

There is something to be said for the exposure he is bringing to it though no? More viewers isn't inherently a bad thing.. And isn't he known for paying the fighters better than they would usually be? There's no way half a billion people tune in to watch Taylor vs Serrano 2 and there's no way Netflix pick that product up without something more.

Perhaps it needs to get worse before it can get better.

I don't necessarily disagree. Jake is paying well, but he will likely never be able to bring that type of exposure again.

And while Netflix picked up a ton of new subscribers - that will no longer be subscribed in 30 days - they also very likely just lost a ton of their most dedicated customers because they couldn't watch Grays Anatomy for the fifth time while the Netflix servers were completely bogged down by the one-off viewers that only subscribed so they could watch parts of two heavily pixelated fights.

I also hink Taylor vs Serrano 2 likely would've done well on its own, as Serrano is heavily backed and promoted by Jake. It wouldn't have pulled nearly the same numbers, but would've served very well as the debut of live combat sports on Netflix.

Ah was that live show also impacting the streaming of watching regular Netflix stuff? I wonder what portion of fans were actually effected by it, my stream was completely flawless and that is super rare in my experience.

I personally would imagine Netflix would deem this a good problem rather than a way lesser viewed show.. I guess we'll see how they respond.
