Mike slapped Jake @ weigh-in

Mike's gonna knock that boy out. all us boxing people want to see that and of course we're biased. Jake doesn't belong in the sport at least not at the pay he's getting. Lots of better guys fighting for a lot less.
We are living in a world where marketing will pay an individual far more than they could've imagined 20 years ago with just a modicum of talent (if any at all)...

It's 2024 and people are awaiting a Mike Tyson fight lol

That's like being excited for Muhammad Ali fighting in the year 2000. And in terms of time Ali in 2000 was closer to his prime than Tyson is today.

Are you new to boxing? Not trying to be condescending but this is a business dude. Professional boxing is a business first and a sport second. We see stuff like this all the time. Even with punches that were never intended to actually connect.

My all-time favorite though was this fake backhanded slap from Ricardo Mayorga that "wobbled" Din Thomas.

No. I've been watching my whole life.

First one - just bc he missed doesn't mean it's fake :/ and sometimes dudes may intend to miss, but just tryna intimidate or shake the situation, doesn't mean it's staged.

Second one fake asf though yeah.
For what it's worth, Din Thomas has been telling whoever would listen that the weird slap/chop didn't wobble him, and if he lost his footing while the bodyguard/bouncer was holding him back, it was because he tried to shoot for a takedown (past the bodyguard?) and his right foot slid from the panel...
You can see the big poster/banner behind him moving right at the moment he loses his footing for a sec, and it makes more sense than "Din Thomas was pretending to be rocked", so I'd be inclined to believe Dinyero on that one <Fedor23>

He talks about the "changing level to shoot for a takedown" stuff in the following vid and "he can rest assured to us" <{Joewithit}>that he didn't get dropped by that shot =>

Anyway, about the Tyson fight, I really hope that he brutalizes Jake Paul, but after watching Evander Holyfield get smoked by Vitor in that exhibition bout back in 2021 (so he would have been just one year older than Mike is now, since Holyfield is 4 years his elder), I really, really don't want to see more boxing legends coming back in their 60s to get more brain damage.

Obviously, Jake Paul is no Vitor Belfort, and he has made a career out of boxing much smaller, washed up MMA guys, who would all still have very likely demolished him under MMA rules, or if Platinum Perry got him to fight under BKFC rules <bringit>

... but Mike Tyson has many health issues, and I don't know if he should box at his age.
Still, that doesn't mean that he can't catch Paul with a huge one and send his hair plugs flying, so I'll probably just watch the main event for free if I'm at home early, we'll see.
I'd hate to miss Jake Paul's first KO loss if what happens happen <{JustBleed}>

Yeah I don't buy that. He was trying too hard to sell it. Mayorga's fingers only touched the side of his neck. It wouldn't have moved him an inch.

Remember when this fight initially had to be rescheduled? It was because Mike's ulcer flared up. He's in bad shape. Don't be fooled by his physique. He was done 20 years ago. After the McBride loss he even admitted that he didn't have the stomach for fighting anymore. This will be his first real sanctioned fight since that loss.
He was burnout at the time though, his mental seems to be in a way better place now. That said, it's not enough to save him....the dude is literally having serious health problems during training camp. This is a very dangerous fight unless the plan is a sparring match, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Perhaps the answer is to pay the other guys more instead of Paul less?

I’ll tell you from a professional boxing coaches standpoint: the purse my fighters get is directly correlated to the amount of money we can earn a promoter on fight night. It doesn’t matter how good my guy is, his record, experience or pedigree. Asses in seats and ppv buys (well, streaming ppv buys through weird third party streaming platforms for the l level I’m at: you won’t see me at MGS anytime soon) is all that promoters care about.

Pro Boxing is a business, not a meritocracy.

Tyson looks like Picard in that episode where he was tortured. I wonder who had a harder life.
