From wiki: "Malott took an extended hiatus from competing in mixed martial arts at the end of 2017. Instead, he focused on his grappling skills competing in many BJJ super fights and earning his black belt. At this time he also began coaching striking at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California. During his time there he cornered many UFC fighters including Urijah Faber and Cody Garbrandt."Future Star???
He's got 10 fights in 13 years, with 4 fights in the last 4 years (only 2 actual UFC fights, not counting Contender).
This guy just doesn't fight frequently for whatever reason - 2 year break in 2011, 2 year break in 2014, 3 year break in 2017. I don't know if he's injury prone or he's smart enough to make good money elsewhere, but you need to be fighting way more often to get to an elite level and to actually build a reputation.
Seems like a nice Canadian "bro" but his best win is Mickey Gall and this is the first time he's fought twice in a decade (2014). So let's slow our roll on calling him a future star (even if just for Canada) - in all likelihood he ends up being an entertaining journeyman that can hit the edges of the top 15, but without becoming champion or being some type of insanely controversial personality he'll be a blip on the radar at best in this game.

More to be revealed tonight. That explains the break in 2017, but why the breaks in 2011 and 2014? Also, why so few fights in 13 years?
On the plus side he doesn’t have the fight mileage, but if he’s been training hard he’s got the sparring mileage plus wear and tear.
He honestly seems like a solid dude but stars are super-fighters with sharp personalities…just sayin’.

Hey man, I’m not trying to convince you of anything, you’re either in or you’re out. He doesn’t have to be the next GSP to be a Canadian star. To answer your question: if he happens to win in spectacular fashion then I’d say it shows he’s a great prospect? Fugitt is no slouch. So you think he’s going to reveal himself as a super-fighter against the 50-something best WW in the UFC he’s fighting?
Or you think he’s going to reveal an amazing personality he’s been hiding for decades on the post-fight speech (if he wins) that makes him the next GSP?
Or he’s going to reveal why he took multiple multi-year absences early in his career and barely fights?
Just not sure where you’re going with this…
it's a wait and see. i don't trust guys who only have first rd finishes. it tells me nothing about them except they're fast starters and can finish guys who they're a lot better than. when he gets into an actual back and forth fight it'll reveal his true potential.
The post fight speech was a bit much even for me haha.Good skills but my god what a boring dude. Cringe level "nice guy" act.
