What is the crime?

No, don't do that.

US President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen has pleaded guilty in a Manhattan court to violating campaign finance laws.

He said he did so at the direction of "the candidate", for the "principal purpose of influencing [the] election".

It's a great day for anyone who cares about the United States, and a very bad day for Donald Trump. The noose around his neck just got a lot tighter.
Don't jump the gun, if Trump starts handing out pardons and firing people, that's when the constitutional crisis will begin. Delayed elections anyone?

I will say, as someone that studies American history, that a sitting US President being directly implicated in a crime- a crime in which the apparent co-conspirator has now pled guilty- is essentially unheard of. We've got Watergate and then basically nothing similar. If this had come out before the election, Trump's ass would have been in a sling. Everything else aside, we are living through some fascinating events.

I look forward to a relatively quiet, almost unremarkable presidency someday.

Here's to hoping the porn parody of these real life events isn't ruined by Stormy Daniels playing herself.

Waiting for Hillary and Tom Hanks to be indicted for raping that girl, who said that CIA mind control made her comply? You said these were facts. Honesty? Pffft.

*edit - it wasn't him, it was TCK
It's an easy mistake to make. They're only really separated by a fancy mustache and some cold moonlight. :p

How was the judge hostile/biased?

“For days, U.S. District Court Judge T.S. Ellis has been cracking the whip at prosecutors in the Paul Manafort fraud trial, prodding them again and again to keep the case moving forward and to drop matters he considers irrelevant.

Prosecutors’ frustration with those exhortations spilled out publicly Monday in a series of prickly clashes in which Ellis snapped at one of special counsel Robert Mueller’s prosecutors, Greg Andres, and Andres sometimes lashed back at the judge — something lawyers rarely do.”

So trump told his lawyer to pay off a woman he had sex with from going public. What is the connection to the election or campaign funds?
So Cohen plead guilty to violating campaign finance laws at the behest of a presidential candidate for no reason, huh?

Trump attempted to keep her quiet about their affair just before the election, so he wouldn't be found to be an adulterer. That would have cost him votes. He tried to influence the election, as Cohen said. That is certainly a crime.

That's ridiculous. The threshold for campaign expenditure is what's at question. And only someone conducting a witch hunt would consider Cohen, Trumps personal lawyer, signing a NDA with Stormy Daniels, Trumps personal associate, as a campaign expenditure.

I think Agnew was the only VP or POTUS that has ever been convicted of a crime.... for now.

Using campaign funds for personal use is prohibited.

So did someone confirm they were “campaign fund” and not just trump money?

Been at work the last 3 days so just trying to catch up and figure out how the Daniels stuff we’ve known about for months suddenly became a crime this weekend.
