Also, damn near 60 now but I’ve seen him dedicated to martial arts since I was a young buck.

Numerous fighters vouch for him and you can easily watch his videos on YouTube to realize he understands the art of combat very well.

You also never see him at UFC events trying to seek attention or take credits for fighters wins like Steven Segal.

@AstralPanda you seem strangely emotional invested in defending MJW at all costs. I find that a bit strange.

But i dont like the haters either. I guess its a bit my fault because i made this thread.

I would like to point out that i like MJW as a action actor. And i even respect him as a legit martial artist. Not a fighter. And he dont deserve the fat ego he got when talking about fighting. I agree that people tend to mistake well earned confidence with arrogance. But MJW is not the fighter he like to pretend to be.

That being said, he is far away from the guys that are fake clowns with NO real skills. Like Seagal. He is more in the same category as guys like Wesley Snipes.. a guy that have trained in martial arts for many decades. But still not a fighter.

And the whole "but but... UFC fighters talk highly of his skills".. thats is being called respectful towards other people. Even if i met MJW tomorrow. Let say he came into my gym. Instead of sparring him, making it look ugly, i would rather just play along his bragging. And if anything, i would probably walk away from there with a even better kicking game. And no egos would get hurt.

My overall attitude in life is that you can learn something from everyone you meet .

In TMA, traditional martial arts are a huge difference form conabt sports like Muay Thai and boxing. Basically you can spend your life hitting air in those disciplines.

Legit at spinning back kicks that he withoalds in sparring. Legit at what ? His spinning back kick technique ? Yes. Apsolutely fluid and great kick. But where is him exchanging round house kicks. If you look at Buakaw or Remy Bonjasky they can´t throw a spining back kicks like MJW. But they actually can deal with hitting and getting hit, and do real bouts.

MJW has some of the best kicks I've seen.

I only saw him do hook and spinning kicks and side kicks. Maybe 1 out of 200 fights gets finished by that. Even lesser chance of such a kick finishing a fight. Like 1 out of 350. It embodies the flash and not bruising nature of TMA as opposed to the real combat sports. It gotta look cool before you beat people with fundamentals.

Love this bizarro standard where someone is only a "martial artist" if they compete in some kind of controlled and limited format where the most dangerous and damaging martial arts techniques are specifically banned.

Cage fighting is not the standard for determining whether someone is a legitimate martial artist.
