MJW seems to miss the fact Coleman was a wrestler.. but it does raise the question... why wasn't Colemans cross training in BJJ enough to submit a kickboxer who crossed over?

It looks to me watching the fight that Coleman didn't even make progress on the ground.

Cross-training was still in its infancy back then. Smith was one of the pioneers with Frank and TK, but Coleman probably couldn't imagine that his ground game would be a weakness and focused on his striking. It sounds crazy, but we see some one-dimensional HWs today who probably approach their training in a comparable way.

But why did his G&P fail?

He has a point

Maurice was cross-training his groundwork HARD with Frank and TK. He beat Marcus Silveira, went to a decision with Kevin Randleman and Babalu, and went to a split decision with Randy Couture.

He implied it. ANy grown men can read between the lines. But you are a white belt so I will be more understanding towards you.

I think he just wanted to name drop. Logan Paul finally got MJW to admit why he never fought..., his chin was weak..

It's still suspect. G&P is all the rage now and Maurice couldn't possibly know more than todays fighters. I'm guessing he was some guard playing prodigy.

Has Mr. White ever taken a quick glance at Smith's record? Everybody and their grandma subbed his ass. Coleman just gassed and it's actually a failure that Smith didn't finish Coleman.
You are right. MJW acts as if Smith did a Lesnar and just crossed over and won the title . Very misleading.

I feel like really the issue with Colemans UFC loses(and I don't think he lost to Rizzo) was his cardio, guys weren't really getting the best of him until he was badly gassed. The Coleman who won the Pride GP and had the cardio to go long and not gas would have beaten them all IMHO as they could do little but defend off of their backs.

Nog was really the sign Colemans time at the top was over, totally outclassed in that match.

Yeah but why? Isn't steroids supposed to improve your cardio? Coleman was on it.

No testing in the UFC at all at the point Coleman left I believe so he could have been on as many PEDs then.

He actually dropped muscle mass when he went to Pride to my eye, he was what around 235lbs in Pride? in the mid 90's my guess would be he was closer to 250lbs.
