News Michael Chandler vs Paddy Pimblett - UFC 314 - 5 Rds

I'm hoping Pimblett puts Chandler down the rankings for good. I think Chandler brings exciting fights but the rankings at LW have been awful for awhile. Not that Pimblett is the most deserving to break through, but he's new blood.

Surprised how many think paddy has an easy match here.

Chandler had power and cardio. No brains I admit, and it's funny to see that not just in fight IQ, but in general. Him waiting for conor still irks me.
They'll still let him call out Connie if he loses.

Great card, looking forward to seeing Paddy get starched.

Why in the fuck would this be 5 rounds?
Presumably to give Paddy the best chance at winning via old man Chandlers gas tank falling off a cliff.

Maybe some future prospective planning going on here as well? Paddy vs winner of Islam vs Topuria?

This is going to end like Page vs Machado. Chandler will win by decision. But because it wasn't a bad loss, pimblett will look at it as a win for him. And if Oliveira didn't submit Chandler then pimblett sure as hell ain't either.
The fight before Oliveira, Chandler got subbed by Poirier. Dustin didn't even have to hurt him to do it either. MMA can be weird sometimes.

Yeah, poirier is way better than Pimblett, and that was before chandler got on his new "supplement" routine

Chandler has been fighting tough opponents while Paddy got gifted decisions and softer competition.

Chandler KO.

Chandler has been over ranked and shown absurd favor from the back office.

Paddy is reasonably deserving IMO because he's gone 6-0 and just had a breakout performance putting away Bobby Green in the first round. Green has fought everybody and is a really established gate-keeper, this fight makes a lot of sense IMO.

Personally I think its a pick-em and this is a good matchup for Chandler to shine.

Right but he's now gone 6-0 in the UFC with 4 of those being stoppages.

At this level you are going to win and lose some close decisions, we don't pick a single fight to harp on we look at their overall body of work. FFS Islam got knocked out in his debut.

To say someone who went 6-0 in the lightweight division and just speed ran put away Bobby Green is "just not that good" is a bit of derangement barrier around the guy.

He's 6-0 (should be 5-1) in the UFC against bottom level competition outside of the Green fight. And beating a 38 year old Bobby Green doesn't mean he's that good in my book.

If he somehow beats Chandler I'll change my tune, but even at this age Chandler's athleticism is still enough to beat somebody like Pimblett who is essentially a mid level guy in the division.

He shouldve done that after that show. Stay active, win, call conor a pussy. Instead, he waits a long time, becomes active, loses, and calls out conor.

It's just about the worst outcome that couldve happened and I dont hate it.

Lets back up - you should be fighting low level UFC talent when you make your debut from a smaller org. That is standard and sensible match making.

Jared Gordeon was 7-4 in the UFC when he fought Paddy, and the losses were against name brand talent like CDR and Charles Oliveira. Setting that aside, Paddy isn't a judge and if you have 6 UFC fights you should expect to win or lose a controversial decision. That is the nature of MMA.

So now he's 6-0 and has beaten multiple veterans with winning UFC records. There is absolutely zero reason in the world to say "he's not that good." He's clearly a UFC caliber fighter, and this is really difficult division to string together half a dozen wins.

Is he a top 10 or top 5 caliber fighter in his prime? We'll find out, but he's certainly deserving of a ranked opponent next.

Can't see Paddy finishing Chandler, but he could win a decision.

I want to pick Chandler, but I think he's kinda done himself in to be honest.

Bad, bad career management sitting out all that time for a pretend fight with that clown Conor.
