Michael Chandler, let’s be real…

Would be a glorious day if UFC announced "Any fighter who has not fought in the weightclass they are ranked in for 1 year, are removed from rankings". That's all they have to do, but they protect their divas.

It's such an easy fix to the rank squatting issue. But they only apply it selectively to fighters they have problems with or don't care about. I remember when they removed Leon from the rankings for a week because he didn't want to fight Khamzat. The rankings are a promotional tool for them subject to their random whims rather than being a legitimate list with a standard criteria. It's a shame.

Chandler may have lost his fights against the elite of the division but not only was it competitive, it was fun. Chandler knows exactly what he's doing. Give the UFC and the fans what they want and put on incredible fights. He almost beat Dustin.
He also rocked Gaethje. All of Chandler fights have demonstrated that Olivera, Gaethje, and Poirier are elite. All three got their chins tested, legs wobbled, but survived to beat him.

I don’t think Conor can survive Chandler like the others did when their chins got tested.

I think Chandler got lucky in the Hooker fight. If he hadn't caught Hooker he would have been in for a rough night. He was also losing against the ghost of Tony before that KO. If he fights Conor he's gonna be in for a rough night as well imo. And I despise Conor btw.

"Michael Chandler was never really any good"

Chandler came in it for the big fits and money

He was competitive in his 3 loses. Knocked down Charles, took a riubf of Gaethje and had his moments vs DP. But yes 2-3. If he loses to Conor it's 2-4. Albeit all 5 his fights were fireworks.

One of the most exciting fighters in the sport, that is certain, but I always laugh at people who act like he could wrestle the whole division if he really wanted but chooses not to because he just wants to be in exciting fights. The reality is he doesn’t have the cardio to do that to most of the division and his best path to victory is emptying the gas tank early trying to get the KO.

Rankings also include quality of fighters you're getting beat by. So i have no problem with Chandler being ranked where he is. However, if he steadfast on waiting for ConRoid, he's willfully omitting himself from ranked pursuits and should be leaped frogged.

Chandler’s losses are all against top competition in which he was competitive, yoy casual.

Excellent idea.

Drew Dober is top 30. Would you favor Tony over him?

No one should be trying to put any kind of number next to Tony's name until he proves he can win a fight. And he shouldn't even be getting another one, if he were Chuck he would have been forced into retirement two fights ago.
Dober is ranked 15 and Tony is 37. I don’t agree, I think Dober is better than that.

But ranking by who you got beat by made Tony a top 5 because he was only fighting top 5s and losing . Chandler is great and May still be a top 5 but I want to see him fight a top 10 more than letting him wait a couple of more years for Conor .

Ok, but he's a vet who has faced very stiff competition and wants a big payday fight; one he was convinced was going to happen due to coaching on TUF. Your wants really don't factor into his decision

I've always wanted to see Chandler win UFC gold but he unfortunately appears to be a step behind the division's very elite at this juncture in his career.
Could be attributed to the fact that since joining the UFC, he's switch up his methodical approach to fights to a head-on just bleed style. <{JustBleed}>

You might be surprised . I don’t think it’s his decision to make and people who work for the UFC check these threads . He is a tremendous asset for the UFC but they need to use him and Conor is completely unreliable as we all know.

Benefit of being an independent contractor, you don't have to take fights. He may get leap frogged but if he wants to hold out for Conor, he can

Half the comments in this thread demonstrate exactly why you don’t have to earn/win your way to a title fight or even a big money fight. If you entertain the audience you have more leverage. Chandler is a classic case showing how the UFC is not a tournament. The UFC is sports entertainment.
Is that so? Someone should tell Boxing and kickboxing and all the other mma promotions that have also been doing that since forever, that this is basically the way its always been.

I am sure Chandler is a company guy and will fight whoever they tell him to. Conor , on the other hand, will fight the weakest belt holder he can find if he fights at all.

im big supporter of rewarding good showings in defeat. most people are, naturally. if a fighter puts up a great effort against a quality opponent and comes up short, the fans respect that. it really depends on how the fight went. chandler was competitive in all his losses. he shouldn’t be punished (too much).

it’s fine if he takes a difficult up-and-comer. some people surely want this because they hate chandler. but if he wins, don’t complain when everyone wants to see him fight for the title. he’s a very popular and entertaining fighter.
