Met a guy who had diverticulitis (answered some of my Brock Qs)

So he was in extreme pain and was bed ridden for a week after surgery?
Hmm, sounds like me and my appendix operation which Interesting enough happened at the same time Brock had his supposed last surgery.

But unlike Brock I have 3 small and one really large scar over my belly since the inflammation was so severe and far gone the first gastric surgery failed and the had to cut me open for 2 and a half hours.

The first week I could hardly move at all, yet after 3 weeks I was back in gym, looking like a walking corpse, and after 6 weeks I was back sparring and rolling. After 3 months and a cycle of steroids I was bigger stronger and better than ever.

So far I havent heard or seen any evidence of Brocks supposed disease, no scars no nothing. The only thing I've heard is his excuses.

"Diverticulitis defeated me"....fucking bullshit..
Uhm, it's safe to say he wasn't bedridden for a week. Colon resection surgery usually has you on a liquid-only diet for several weeks and you're not supposed to lift anything heavy for like a month.

No solid foods and no training for a month isn't something to scoff at

That seems entirely possible. Obviously we'll never know, but it's hard to rule out the mental issue argument, especially for a guy who didn't spend 15 years fighting. The truth is MMA was all still relatively new for the guy at that point... which in turn could have fucked with his mind even more.

Mark Hunt got recruited by a trainer who saw him knock out several bouncers at a night club.

Some guys are just naturally scrappers and don't flinch.

Brock did. He is a typically large guy... he's not used to being pressured and responded poorly to it in 3 fights. He did improve in this fight... he didn't bring much standing but he kept his composure.

However, he had to work on this for a long time and to not respond to flaling or turtling up. He didn't even allow guys to hit him in his first camps.

This is common with guys who are used to being the biggest and the strongest in the room... you rarely see 6'4" 300lbs dudes,,, until someone as big or bigger comes up.

I like especially like how it was the first thing he said after the Reem loss.

What a showman, from the aggressive beast kicking a man when he's down with Mir to suddenly poor Brock whose an ill man and has only lost to his disease, no man beat him ever beat him.

I'm surprised he hasn't said he's still champ.

We all know Brock showed up and looked pretty good at 200. Obviously didn't seem to show lingering effects of diverticulitis, but I always wondered how much it really did play a factor for him back in the day, and just wondered what the hell the condition was like - how debilitating, etc.

Met a guy related to my neighbors (a few days back), who I hang out with on a fairly regular basis. Anyway he had diverticulitis and had just been scoped a few weeks prior to meeting him. My curiosity about Brock still lingered so I picked his brain about the whole ordeal.

(when I mentioned Brock he had no clue who I was talking about, but when I told him he was a wrestler/fighter who dealt with it he seemed blown away that he was able to recover and compete again so soon after surgery; this convo took place prior to 200 by a few days, so I was referencing the "old" brock)

The guy said it was one of the most debilitating things he's ever experienced. Said the pain was worse than anything he'd ever dealt with and it was hard just standing up let alone walking. Said he'd flat out never experienced anything as extreme. Also said the recovery was brutal and that he didn't want to go out or do anything for the first week other than lay in bed, it was so bad.

I just thought it was interesting because I was always real curious how devastating it was for Brock. Hate to be a douche, but I wondered if Brock kind of used it as an excuse because it was clear he had some issues absorbing big strikes.

Guess Brock wasn't BSing (again, I didn't know if he was or wasn't, as I had ZERO knowledge of diverticulitis) at all about what it did to him physically and what it did to his fighting career.

I just thought it was interesting to hear first hand from someone who had dealt (and was still dealing) with it. I figured I couldn't be the only one to wonder how debilitating it truly was - thought I'd share the little experience.

whole thing made me feel like an ass monkey for questioning Brock's fortitude.
Now you can apologize to Brock when you saw this

and remember that is K1-Champ UBERreem, kicking him in the stomach, just out of spite!

And Brock still had the mental fortitude to shake his hand and give a retirement speech.

I've suffered a lot of injuries in my life - obviously I've never had diverticulitis, so I don't know much about that - but I was able to heal quickly from some of my injuries, and was down and out for longer than most with others. People and their body's respond differently to injury and recovery.

Like I said, I had no knowledge of diverticulitis whatsoever, I was curious, I had some questions - so I guess my lack of knowledge in the area makes me a colossal moron.

I wasnt actually referring to you specifically. Just in general. Unless you actually didn't think have several feet of a major organ removed was a traumatic experience. Then, yeah, thats kinda dumb.

But yet he would have you believe her fought on extremely short notice for UFC 200 without issue. Maybe he's full of shit, had a full camp and thus no reason for an exemption.

You cant recall huh.......they had an interview on repeat where he states it as the reason his career was cut short. They were running the video all the way thru UFC 200
Yes, but he didn't come off as whiny a la Hendricks with his 101 excuses.

Has there been an announcement of any sort regarding his future in MMA? From the stuff I read it sounded like it was really just a one-off deal with the WWE.

I'd like to see him fight again - win or lose there's something obviously polarizing about the guy.
Dude just took out a Top 10 HW, notorious for disfiguring jaws! I highly doubt this will end up being a one-off thang!

My mom had diverticulitis. True story.

Did not cause her to really miss any work or change her routine. She handled it like a boss and not like the pussies you know or Brock!
My grandmother had it as well. Never complained about it. Crazy old lady was a straight up G.

If you unraveled your intestines it would stretch halfway across the united states.

The idea that Overeem was targeting some kind of weakness there is surely nonsense? Brock never would have been fighting if that was a possibility surely? Seems pretty clear Overeem hit him with a liver shot.

That wasn't a criticism of Overeem, that's exactly what he should have done.

Maybe. I think his illness played a role, but had nothing to do with his break dance routine or turning tail and running. He has a bad fight-or-flight response, choosing to run instead. That's when I knew he didn't belong in the top of the division.

I think a lot of his success came from HW MMA. It's just one of those screwy divisions where you don't need that quality title run of six to eight contenders like at LW.

Would love to see him give it another try, though. Maybe a diverticulitis tour where he rematches Cain and regulaReem.

In the meantime....eat your fiber and drink plenty of fluids a day.

You don't get cleared to fight by the Athletic Commission if you are sick, that's all i am going to say.

At the time of the Overeem fight it was said he was 100%, no excuses and Brock himself handled it like a man.

Yes, it does sure seem like in regards to the diverticulitis Brock has really shown some...................................................................................intestinal fortitude.

Your mom has a badass ass. I did some badass things to your mom's ass. Tell her to call me.

My point was that Overeem was targeting a technical weakness NOT a physical weakness, Brock wasn't held back by the illness/surgery there he was just caught with a liver shot and finished.

Brock generally isn't one to take extreme physical risks(not really a criticism of him, arguably more fighters should step away earlier), he dropped out of the WWE originally due to the effect of the heavy schedule and left the UFC when he started taking beatings, I cannot see him or indeed the commission allowing him to fight if there was some kind of weakness Overeem could target.

I think recent events have answered alot of questions. We have always suspected diverticulitis was connected to PED use and wild game meat.

It was just a clear indication of what we all knew he did.
