Media merab calls out yan for trilogy fight

im not even gonna get in to whether or not merab deserves the rematch or not.
i personally dont wanna see merab fight at all. decision fighters are bad for the sport.
having the gold be held with records like this makes the division look weak and is bad product as a main or co-main event.
make him take at least one fight beforehand and FINISH it.
only 3 finishes in his 17 UFC fights. BORING

Merab vs. Yan or better Merab vs. Umar to earn a shot at the title.
Umar was not impressive in his last 2 fights. here is a chance to prove himself.if he can't,Merab is just the better fighter

Sames lol.

Yan himself has been shutting down talk of facing anyone else and said he wants Merab again next.

I thought Yan said he felt Merab should have to fight his back to a title shot after the beating he gave him (just like he had to), but Merab of course deserved a rematch and he’d do whatever the UFC wanted.

I’m sure he’d rather get revenge on Suga - bigger name and vengeance for a robbery that set these wheels in motion.

Feel sorry for Xiaonan Yan. Why did so many fighters call her out? They just want to roll with her or what?

Would you believe that ~6 months ago I had people here telling me how entertaining Merab’s fights are? I was shocked too.

None of them were boring in his title reign. Umar, both omalley fights, Yan fight, sandhagen fight all good fights.

Aldo and Yan 1 were infact boring, however.

I actually thought the Yan 1 win was very entertaining, the amount of takedowns and pressure he brought to break down Yan (even an injured one at that) was impressive. And I'm a Yan super-fan.

Basically every fight he's been in starting with Yan 1 was relatively entertaining - Cejudo fight he got dropped early then came back and stormed his castle, first Suga fight was probably the least entertaining of his title run but he needed to get his hands on it, Umar scrap was insanely competitive, put a clinic on Suga in the rematch, Sandhagen fight was solid in spots but droll in others, Yan rematch legendary battle.

Honestly it's his pre-title run that was terrible (outside of almost getting killed by Moraes but coming back to get a KO). He had a run of 7/8 fights (Aldo, Stamann, Dodson, Lopez, Kenney, Katona, Ware) over the course of 5 years that all went to decisions with him basically wrestle-mugging dudes and clinching them non-stop....I literally can't remember a single moment from any of those fights.

I hesitate to call his fights boring because he is pushing a pace and things are happening. A boring fight is something where no stirkes are thrown, No damage is done, no positions are gained. Maia vs Woodley or rose vs esparza 2 would be what I consider a very boring fight. merabs is actually active and working

no, Merab already cleared out his division shouldn't have to fight anyone else.
Lost a very convincing title fight, then fight someone again...fight someone from 125, from 145...insta trilogies ruin the sport and careers.

both of them lost to eachother in landslide fights, both fights 5 rounds. both fighters in their prime now, the first match up was 3 years ago. I think it's okay to have a trilogy unfold over 3 years. That's not forced imo.

It's boring because the 'things that are happening" are his opponent getting held against the cage in a rear-waist lock or getting pushed into the cage with head position or getting taken down and immediately getting back up.

His pace doesn't typically lead to increasing amounts of damage, moments of subliminal violence, chain-submission attacks, flurries, etc. It's just weaponized cardio which makes opponents defensive and forced to tire themselves out without ever getting the initiative.

Only when he started fighting the best of the best post-Aldo were his opponents good enough to not just get endlessly stalled out and the fights started becoming somewhat more dynamic and move through different phases and force him to attack and do more real offense.

But to each his own, some find even the early Merab stuff entertaining, just not me.

Im down for the trilogy. Both guys dominated each other once and Merab had a few defenses before losing. Also I no interest in boring Umar fighting for the belt, not O'Malley getting his 3rd title shot after a narrow win vs Yadong.

Can't wait for the Merab-Volk buddy cop comedy to come out after they both retire.

They could remake Red Heat, with Volk as Belushi's character and Merab as Arnold's character, except instead of immense strength, it's just constant takedowns. Plus, I can't wait to hear Merab correctly pronounce

Oh, maybe it was that. Remembering him saying that he was told it's Merab again next, so maybe it isn't exactly what he wanted even if he is cool with it.
