Daft IMO if for no other reason than there are so many different types of guns suited for a multitude of different purposes and situations, but to each their own. There are also a bazillion different things you can do with the AR platform (including the big boy 10's chambered in 7.62x51 NATO) hence barbie doll meme. All of that shit is sort of anathema with rival AK pattern rifles though and there are really only a few questions with them: one being a milled or stamped receiver as discussed earlier with @DragRacer and @superking. Another of far more significance would be the cartridge choice between the OG heavy hitting 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 with all-around superior ballistics, and having at least one of each actually makes sense.

I'm putting an AKM together with my local Kalash gunsmith out of parts predominantly manufactured by Cugir Arms Factory, a Romanian defense contractor that is now a subsidiary of the state-owned ROMARM. The barrels they produce are incredibly stout -- cold hammer forged and industrial chromelined, but the receiver is getting a heat treatment upgrade at the shop and the rails adjusted to prevent any bolt carrier jump. In a lieu of a meme, this is both informative and succinct.
