True. When I was a kid, a necessity fell into 3 categories- food, clothing and shelter. That was before Americans spent about 40% of their income on technology.
There was a show hosted by twins about stats in America. I can't recall what it was called, and can't seem to find it on the internet, but they did an episode that showed how Americans spent their money in past decades and how they spend it today. Expenditures on technology is a massive chunk of our spending today where it wasn't back then. So, all these ignoramuses, with their hand held consoles and iPads, saying how unfair it is they can't afford a home need to look no further than what is in their own hands. Imagine how much more money you would have right now if you didn't spend so much of it on computers, phones, game consoles, and whatever else they are spending it on. People were more practical back in the day and didn't have nearly as much disposable income (if any).True. When I was a kid, a necessity fell into 3 categories- food, clothing and shelter.
Now people truly believe its impossible to get by without a cell phone.

For those that don't know, in Basic Training drill sergeants are who pass out mail. Since 'dad' wrote that on the outside of the envelope its guaranteed the drill sergeants saw and read it.
I bet the Drill Sergeants had fun with that private by 'smoking' him for hours. (Endless pushups, etc)
And 'Dad' knew that would happen when writing the message on the envelope.
