No, those are Democracies with social programs.

Venezuela was doing great as the 2nd most prosperous nation south of North America.

And then Hugo Chavez was elected, rich people left, the global price of oil dropped, and now Venezuela is effectively a dictatorship with a skyrocketing rate of death by starvation.

And its not like its the first time its happened.

You're right, they're socialist democracies with a heavy capitalist influence, just like us and most of the civilized world.

They're good examples of socialism done right. I think there are many more instances of socialism done right than you'd like to admit.

It seems to me the problem isn't economic ideology, but individual leadership.

What countries are heavily capitalist democracies with minimal socialist influence?

Yes, its much easier to be socialist when they don't have much to spend on their militaries and just rely on America's.

And even then, the EU is constantly in a debt crisis.

One thing I will admit is the 'socialist' countries you mention are not dictitorial, are free-trade, with strong economies with a wide variety of strengths... like not only relying on oil.

And, ONE thing they do I wish America would adopt... they're nearly all fully powered by Nuclear power.

Military spending isn't capitalism.

It's government subsidy for American arms manufacturers and low income individuals and states.

I would say every country has moved further away from pure capitalism and pure socialism. China and Russia have abandoned it, and in many ways are more capitalist than most. Post-war western governments have moved more and more toward socialism in certain markets, especially healthcare and education, whereas the traditional socialist governments have as well, but they still like their resources and commodities markets state run or at least heavily regulated.

That isn't true, and whoever taught you was wrong.

Socialism isn't full government control of anything. It's community control of everything. You've mixed socialist theory with the totalitarian regimes that exploited it, and then just disregarded the theory.

Socialism isn't total control either, though it can be, it is more often merely regulation backed by the community.
