That is dated. We no longer have a surplus. We have a massive deficit, but those Leftist drones that barely contribute are still thinking we do.
So they tax their citizens the most, have a deficit and is still among the states with the most homeless? Are they just directly stealing taxpayer money now?

"California's state and local government debt is approximately $1.6 trillion, which is about $125,000 per household. This is higher than the annual GDP of all but 13 countries. California has the largest state debt burden in the country, with Californians carrying $4,679 per person."

Pretty much... they just announced another .50 a gallon gas tax. It's insane.
How the fuck does one state go from a $100 billion surplus to a $73 billion deficit in roughly three years? Unless it was just on paper.
And states lose out on gas tax revenue the more fuel efficient cars get and the more hybrids and electrics that are on the road. Wouldn't be surprised to start seeing VMT taxes in the near future in some states.

Huh. Here is literally ONE issue.

"Audit finds California spent $24B on homelessness in 5 years, didn't consistently track outcomes. California spent $24 billion to tackle homelessness over the past five years but didn't consistently track whether the huge outlay of public money actually improved the situation, according to state audit released Tuesday.Apr 9, 2024."

The amount they spend on illegals is mind bending too. The spending never ends.
