It looks like I chose a helluva time to get involved.

The Fuck, lol.

Say you want your movie to bomb hilariously without saying you want your movie to bomb hilariously.

Don't know about you guys, but watching every comic book movie not named 'Spider-Man' or 'The Batman' perform far below expectations at best, or completely bomb (The Eternals, Black Panther, Shazam 2, Wonder Woman 1984, etc) has been very gratifying to see.

Been buying collected hardback of great comic series lots from Ebay, and they're great. Highly recommended.

As if James Gunn didn't already have enough on his plate, there's all this ID politics and diversity hire drama. These flicks (Shazam 2, The Flash, Blue Beetle) are all trash bin DCEU leftovers that Warner Bros had already plunked hundreds of millions down on during the previous regime when Dwayne Johnson was trying to take over DC Studios (lol) and really has no choice but to release. Gunn and Safran can't even begin their new reset until Summer 2025, and they're banking heavily on the public having the appetite for and being receptive to their interpretation of Superman.

Well, I at least solved the issue of my own brushing up. It's instant digital access to over 32,000 books and graphic novels dating back to the 1930s, lol. Some of this stuff is actually dope.

LOL, four books I basically loath, save for maybe the art in Killing Joke. They do give you a sense of what modern creators are influenced by and the sorts of stories and sensibilities they are aiming for though (part of the reason I don't really read most modern comics). Lots of people dig them though. Dark Knight Returns is probably my favorite of those four, in terms of actual story. As an aside, my friend thinks people are reading suggestions of sexual abuse into Killing Joke, whereas I think it is pretty heavily implied. I wonder what others think. He's pretty adamant that it isn't there in the comic itself but being projected onto it by fans.

That one's not mine, but I'm building up my collection after most of mine was stolen a decade ago.

Sheesh, those Ultimate Spider-Man hardbacks are freaking expensive from Volume 7 to 12, like $60-$80 each.

Did find some great deals on others though. Picked up Punisher Max Volume 1&2 for $30 total, in pretty good condition.

I am not at all surprised by this, lol. The very first personal recommendation you gave last week was a classic collection of predominantly silver and bronze age stories and it would seem that the likes of Miller, Moore, Morrison, et al. essentially took it upon themselves to largely re-define Batman in the mid/late 1980s when the Comic Codes Authority went out the window.

I was never in any doubt that Joker molested Barbara after shooting her. I don't think he was unbuttoning her clothes just to take pictures. He was trying to break Jim Gordon, so it makes sense he would inflict the worst kind of trauma he could.

Holy moly what trash fire of a human being.

That was pathetic even for him. And the crowd. Wow. It must really suck to be that miserable and unoriginal.

Yeah, exactly. I don't really get why people would disagree, other than it is an ugly thing.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. And I don't know what specific principle in the Joker's code would preclude him from taking advantage of Jim Gordon's daughter. Maybe if you presume he just isn't interested in sex, but in that case I'd assume he just let his henchmen do the job. The only thing I could think of is if maybe he just didn't find it "funny" somehow, like it ruined the joke of it all for him.

The Joker's personality can change radically depending on who's writing the character. The only limits I can remember him having is whatever he does must be, "funny" in his eyes. So for example he doesn't abuse animals because they can't get the joke. And no one is allowed to kill Batman except him. Although he'd probably be perfectly happy for Batman to kill him, as it would prove his theory that anyone can be broken by having, "one bad day".

In Killing Joke, he's trying to break Jim Gordon's spirit complete, to drive him insane with rage and grief, as he claims happened to himself. To that end, I have no doubt he would either rape Barbara himself or tell one of his goons to do so. It would not be about sex. It would be about forcing Gordon to watch his daughter being violated.
