I don't know about historically accurate numbers, but anecdotally my grandfather (and 3 uncles) was a truck driver. (both my parents in the military Viet Nam era and worked in a factory for 3+ decades after. How did that give me white privilege?). He drove cross country and was gone for weeks at a time to support his 12 children. My brother-in-law was a truck driver a few years ago and he made deliveries within the local area so he was home every night on time. The point being that there are more factors at play than capitalist devils exploiting the worker.
I will admit the true wage decline is troubling. I just know too many small business owners to think that those guys are the problem. There is a wide gap between Bezos and the guy who owns a trucking firm.
