TBF those are 19 years apart. After Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Yugoslavia, and so on, the neo-cons and neo-libs actually did believe that they were on the right side of history and your average Iraqis would welcome us in the streets. The fact the mistreated Kurds were ournumbered 20-1, and that the Shia/Sunni (and before that Persian/Arab) ethnic clashes were so ingrained that they were more important than building the country up, meant that only a dictator could ever really keep that part of the world stable.

Look at Egypt for instance, 5 seconds of democracy and they start planning to blow up the Pyramids of Giza and history dating back to the cradle of civilization.
