We put off our October Route 66 adventure/North Rim trip for another year

This stuff was really gut wrenching to follow. I've met the owner of this lodge, and he's salt of the earth. Anything that's been salvaged is due to the relentless work of the elite hotshot fire crews called in after NPS dipshits fumbled the bag. In an interview with a local news outlet, he said they promised him in no certain terms that they wouldn't allow it to be turned to ash.





And they fucking saved it, along with what looks like significant chunks of the forest. Some of the bravest, strongest, and most useful Men alive on the planet. You can see where it was stopped dead in its tracks in the second photo.

Small miracle, much for the past, present and future lodge-goers to be thankful for.

I recently learned up in Canada that they don't generall allow US wildfire crews come up to assist. Guessing it's because of their shift to stricter work visa rules, definitely their loss though. I've met some of these men, they're some of the best among us.
