I'm looking to incorperate a medicine ball into my routine, and have virtually no experience with one (also, my gym doesn't have any) I don't want to get something to light or too heavy right now. Any help would be appreciated.
Stats:
Bench : 300lbs max
Lateral Deltoid raise: 50 max
Curl: 70 max

Nice lifts dude. What's your leg press?
I'm not sure. I don't train legs much, so probably not very good. I mostly do bodyweight squats, or jumping squats with a 75 lbs heavy bag on my shoulders.

I wouldn't worry about it, the curl is where it's at.

I'd def make one. They dont make them heavy enough for you.

Yeah, better go with a 25lber or so.
Damn. I can a 25 lb heavy bag for literally half the price as the equivalent medicine ball($50 instead of $100). I might consider that option. Thanks.

for what purpose are you looking into getting a medicine ball?

Strength, endurance....core work.....power....Lets get some details

Also, I will assume you haven't been to S&P before

I'm taking the high ground for the moment and just going to ask.......why don't you do any good...i mean manly...i mean lower body lifts?

I dont know man, I got a 20 lb. med ball and I tried to do one of Ross E's med. ball workouts and it was way too heavy. I think I'm going to use a tennis ball next time I do it. Seriously though, I'd probably go with a 12 or 14 lb. to start off with if you're doing endurance type stuff with it.

Specifically power and core for MMA. I've substituted plates for some movements before, but I'd like to have a ball for more versatility.

As far as not doing manly lower body lifts, I work in a hospital (walk 7-9 miles a day on the job), and do kickboxing 2-3 times a week, so I just can't motivate myself to add more punishment to my legs (and it may indeed border on overtraining if I'm not careful).

I know people that run 7 miles a day and still do a lower body workout once a week. Also if your training to be a kickboxer you should really look into working your legs.

Why don't you try one out...if it's too heavy, use a lighter one.

Then, never come back to this forum.

kk thnx bye.

I think I'll take that advice. Thank you, citizen.

walking 7-9 miles a day < squats and deadlifts once a week.

as for med ball weight, 12-20 lbs should do you, man with no "real" training, you're gonna feel that shit. check the search function to find a thread on making your on medicine ball.

Maize bags are good because you can use it for striking and as a medicine ball they come in all sorts of sizes.

What the heck are you going to do with a 25lb medicine ball... go heavy, with a 100lber you can do good stuff... If your bench is 300 and your core isn't weak you should be able to handle a 100 for a lot of different things.

If your going to train with a medicine ball for conditioning it's understandable that you want to go lighter. If your training your core or using it for functional strength. Then get a D ball or some other brand and go heavy.

I am sure your body has adjusted to walking at work by now. You should incorparate leg work into your workouts. At least some plyo. You will need that explposive power in your legs. All the walking will help to make you leanner bnut will add nothing to your strength ot power.

Back to the original question. Find an old basketball cut a slit in it and fill it with sand, gravel what ever. If its to heavy take some out, if its to light add more. Oh and make sure you use duct tape to close off the hole
