Ten years saying Obamacare was the end of the world and trying to replace it. Then, when they finally came to power, they had.....absolutely nothing planned and their only proposal was for a system that increased average prices, sped up cost growth, threw millions off of coverage, and reduced coverage standards.

Mitch McConnell's Lie-Filled Tirade Against Medicare for All Draws Cheers From For-Profit Hospital Industry
Calling single-payer a "far left social experiment," GOP leader neglected to mention dozens of nations that spend far less for better outcomes and healthier populations
by Julia Conley, staff writer
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell drew applause from leaders of the hospital industry on Tuesday morning as he called on those who profit from the nation's broken healthcare system to swarm Washington, D.C. to thwart the growing momentum of Medicare for All.

Denouncing the program as a "radical scheme," McConnell told the American Hospital Association (AHA) that their help is needed on Capitol Hill to defeat the increasingly popular idea.

"This radical scheme would be serious bad news for America's hospital industry," McConnell told the gathering. "You should not be the guinea pigs in some far left social experiment."

Although Republicans continually portray Medicare for All as an untested, experimental system, universal healthcare is a well-established program in dozens of developed countries around the world.

McConnell also referred to the program as "Medicare for None," claiming it would "hollow out the [Medicare] program until there's nothing left but the label."

"Single-payer would be an expansion of Medicare to Medicare for All so how would that hollow it out?" one critic responded on Twitter.

The GOP leader ended his speech by calling on the hospital officials in the room to descend on Washington, D.C. to pressure lawmakers into opposing Medicare for All plans like the one Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is expected to introduce Wednesday. McConnell later took to social media to warn that Medicare for All would "slap a $32 trillion tab on Americans" in its first decade—leaving out the fact that the current system is projected to cost as least $34 trillion over the next ten years.

Sanders' bill is the latest version of the proposal he introduced in 2017 and is expected to largely call for an elimination of the for-profit insurance industry and coverage for nursing homes and other long-term care, which are not currently covered by Medicare.

McConnell's attack on Medicare for All drew applause from the AHA, which opposes a single-payer system because of fears it would reduce payments that are made to hospitals.

On social media, some critics slammed McConnell for simply offering a new version of the Republican Party's 2017 attempt to repeal the ACA without offering a healthcare plan to replace it.
McConnell stayed away from the anti-ACA rhetoric President Donald Trump has continued to use, focusing instead on the perceived threat of Medicare for All to the hospital industry, as 70 percent of Americans—including more than half of Republican voters—support the proposal, according to polling by Reuters.

Now, what's wrong with that statement?

Spoiler: It's that same thing that's wrong with the phrase "America's prison industry."

Of all of the current "leaders" we have in government....this guy is the absolute worst...and represents everything wrong with career politicians.

Kind of like how the Food and Drug Administration was serious bad news for the shitting into people's mouths industry.

If we have Medicare for all, and... everyone has Medicare... doctors who don't accept Medicare would be a fairly niche market...

Medicare is a big downgrade for most Americans though.

Once again, we don't have an insurance problem or a healthcare problem. We have a problem of out of control healthcare prices that are not subject to any normal market forces. Just deciding that uncle Sam will pick up the tab for 320 mill citizens and another 30 million non citizens will only make matters exponentially worse

I lost my great personal physician two years ago when my private, company plan decided to place him out of network. But I guess that's OK. Just the way the market rolls, right?

McConnell is one small step above pond scum. He's the worst actor in politics.

How do right wing voters defend the GOP's position on healthcare? They literally have no position here other than whatever increases profits of large corporations. They're even fine with the idea of your costs rising dramatically and are totally ok if you don't get covered at all. Their position is completely indefensible and if American voters weren't so partisan and poorly informed this would sink the Republican party. In a well functioning political system with a GOP that actually tried to serve the interests of regular people we would have something that looked like Rs fighting for a version of healthcare that looked like the ACA (market-based system with regulations) and the Ds fighting for medicare-for-all (or some version of that). Instead it's die, and die quickly for profits!!! vs medicare-for-all. And the losers are Americans.

No, it's not lol

...this just in....people like free shit

Yeah, people like paying less and having better experiences with products and services that everyone will eventually need and use.

If you like paying more and getting less for the fun of it, you can just pay less through our way and then spend the extra money through donations to charity.

It will cost at least as much for a single payer system. Do you think doctors will be like oh it's the government I'll give it to then free now.

Except for the fact that a single payer puts all the price bargaining power in the hands of the patients/consumers you're absolutely right, dude.

Bolded for emphasis.

The law didn't fuck you (broadly speaking), your company fucked you.

Huh?

No, it will cost less. Just like it does literally everywhere else in the world. Just as literally every analysis - even those by right-wing publications like Cato - has shown.

Prices for healthcare insurance coverage aren't high because doctors are charging more: they are high because there is a profit interest behind private insurance and the cost of keeping afloat insurance companies' analysts, legal teams, and operations specialists is borne by the consumers.
