My old MMA coach told a story about a time him and Dan almost fought at a party because Dan vultured the chick he was digging on and he posted up on Dan and they had to broken apart. That guy was notoriously shady though so I have no idea if that actually happened. Though he probably did get his girl vultured by him.

And I know what you mean with Machida. When I first realized just how righteous he was, it was right before his first fight with Shogun. Since then though, Machida has probably eclipsed Shogun on my patented respect-o-meter. My favorite active fighter right now probably.

Albeit only spent 10 minutes with him in total, the couple of times I've met Dan he's seemed like the nicest easiest laid back Californian surf dude type ever. Your bloke may well be telling the truth, who knows? He did tell me that Franklin was ducking him though, this was aaaaaages before they fought. I asked him which weight class he'd prefer to fight in and he said he didn't give a shit; whichever weight he was asked to fight in. I really admire that. It may not be the same now but in 2008 it was.

I was watching Dan get interviewed for Pride 20 earlier and it was cracking me up how chill and neutral all his answers were. When I heard that story, all I could think about was who could make Dan upset enough to fight for free and who would be stupid enough to try it. It's awesome to see him have such a great run at the end of his career after going so long being under Chuck and Wanderlei's shadow. He's finally emerged as the best of the three and is older than them to boot lol.

The guy has beaten Big Nog, Fedor, both Rua brothers, Wanderlei, Belfort, Bustamante, Yvel, and a prime Carlos Newton. Fucking unreal.
