Max vs Topuria could end up being pretty ugly

If they have to do this would much prefer Topuria vs another contender Volk hasn't faced yet.

People are really missing the point ITT if they think objections to a Max/Ilia fight (and likely subsequent Volk/Holloway quadrilogy) is on the basis of "It won't be fun" or "They aren't talented". Those are strawmen arguments.

Honestly, crazy idea that I know people will probably hate, but I would rather see Ilia face Aljo for the interim title than Max. It gets Sterling out of 135 and encourages movement down there (especially from Merab), he's been talking about moving up, January would give him some time to add bulk, he's been staying active, and no matter who wins it's a fresh challenge for Volk who provides good name value on his resume if he beats them.

I'd like to see topuria win in this match up. I'd go as far to say that max can't win. The universe will stop him. I thought the same about DDP vs Whittaker. I knew DDP and Izzy had to fight. (I turned out to be wrong ultimately)

Max has to lose a non title fight eventually. topuria and volk must fight. its a cannon event.

While this does create an ideal outcome, there has to be a better option than sterling.

Is patrico pittbull a free agent? lol

He leanrn't to fight off the UFC video games and punching on in an MMA gym.

He wasn't a kickboxer, he just likes to punch on and is rather good at boxing with a great chin and gas tank.

MAx went to decision with DP for the interim belt and had moments in that fight and still wasn't dropped once.
Topuria nearly got bodied by Jai Herbert. He came back to win by a devastating KO, but I think Max gets it done, similar to the Aldo fights.
He has close to ten kickboxing fights….. It is what he started out training in.

Funny, I see it completely differently. Ilia has nothing for Max, gift wrapped win imo. Ilia is fun and powerful, but his "boxing" is severely overrated. He loads up on everything, constantly whiffs at air, puts himself off balance mid combo, his speed is nothing impressive, no real set ups. I just don't see it. As a guy with a grappling background, sure he looks like a world beater against other grapplers, but he's a light sparring partner for Max if he approaches this fight boxing heavy like he has all his UFC fights.

Man
Max have only 31 YO
I know he's been there forever and have that old dude aura, but honestly, i think Max is in his prime, and he probably Will only get better at least at his 35
35 is a lil ambitious my dude, Max has been fighting professionally for 12 years at least

I love this fight, Max is the clear no 1 guy still and sure if Top loses it cuts off another contender but he needs to prove himself worthy, if he can't beat Max then he ain't beating Volk anyways so who cares.

I don't think topuria has anything for max or volk to be honest. I seem to be in the minority thinking that, though

Max will pick topuria apart. It will only be reasonably competitive for the first 7 minutes.

He had his first fight his first week of training. He just fought in what was available at the time to him.
After he saw BJ Penn, he went straight across to MMA.

I'd like Topuria to fight someone before Volk, Holloway is a tough match for him. I wonder if Topuria can get Holloway down because it isn't like the latter is impossible to get down and his striking defense is stellar, either.

Look, I love Max Holloway, he’s an absolute monster of a fighter and a pretty solid dude too. But we know how he fights and he has a lot of miles on his body. Usually what happens to those types of fighters is once they get older they tend to be on the receiving end of one or more hellacious beatings.

Of course, this isn’t the first time anyone has uttered this and it’s happened multiple times that Max will then proceed to just style on dudes, but I have a feeling Topuria might be able to dish out one of those hellacious beatings on Max. This is a very interesting fight.

what do you think about this matchup?
Depends on what Max shows up honestly. I don’t think he’s lost too much to lose to a guy like Topuria, but we won’t really know until they fight. Max is hot and cold lately.

Can we just have Topuiria decapitate Paddy while he waits for Volk?

It doesn’t matter. He still has roughly ten kickboxing fights. Why are you arguing that he doesn’t have kickboxing experience?

But in the event Volk pulls it off, the UFC has to do an immediate rematch because they can't seem to ever not do that.
Dagestani fighters don't turn around on short notice so it'd be fine. If Volk somehow pulls off the upset, Islam is gonna wanna spend a lot of time preparing for the trilogy.

I said he isn't a kickboxer. Those fights are all over the place and custom ruleset special fights on mixed cards with various different sports.

They were basically smoker tough man events with kicks allowed depending on what each fighter/team agreed on.

If it happens I got Max, if they decide to do it don't make it for an interim belt though as beating Max yet again does nothing for Volk, just make it a placeholder fight. Otherwise just imagine well Max has an interim belt but no one wants to see Volk Max 4 so that belt is now gone. World class moment from Dana incoming.
