Max is Only 31, Probably Will Be Champ Again Realistically

It would depend on what happens first. Max declining or Volk moving up or hanging them up. Max is a tad younger but has taken more damage and been in more wars. I can see Max on the decline by the time he's Volks age.

Damn that's insane. Max has been with the UFC for ages feels like.

I doubt it....Max is 31 but has over 30 MMA pro fights with a lot of cage time. Not to mention the way he has talked over the last few years it seems like he is more the guy that is ready to get out early over staying to late. He also has basically taking sparring out of his training few years back.

If I'm Max I'm looking for couple more big money fights and calling it a day.
He can easily be the champ still and even reign for few years. Just look at Charles Oliviera. He’ll be 34 very soon, has had 44 pro fights, finished badly many times and he’s fighting for the title next.

The 2nd fight was razor close, Max could readjust from the 3rd to the 4th fight just as he did from the 1st to the 2nd, and win since quite a handful thought he won the 2nd fight. It's all about adjustments.

It’s a really a matter of time so to speak.
In the 3rd fight, Volk showed that he really had Max’s number.

Something drastic would need to happen regarding both fighters for that to change, IMO.
Plus Max does have a ton of miles on him.

All that said, if Volk’s not there, Max would very likely be the champ.

Featherweights too stacked and Max has been in alot wars. His time as champ is over unfortunately. Alot of new rising stars too, topuria is probably up next for the belt.

That’s the other half of the equation, IMO.
The are plenty of young fighters with few miles coming up in the ranks.

At this point, I'm just going to enjoy watch Max fight. It's a pleasure.
I don't think anyone has ever had me getting up from the couch and screaming as consistently as Max. That one time when he just stuck his chin out, pointed down and nodded furiously, and then proceeded to hail meteors from the celestial plane was fucking cinema. And then when he turned Kattar into 4% in Doom, and started yelling "I am the best boxer in the UFC", not even looking at him but still piecing him up. JESUS

Meh early 30s hasn’t been kind to fighters in the smaller weight divisions

obviously there are exceptions with volk, but he started quite late
Bullshit.

Just look at the title fights happening now.

Islam (32) vs Oliviera (34)
Volkanovski (34) vs Yair (30)
Aljo (34) vs O’Malley (28)
Moreno (29) vs Pantoja (33)

Early to mid 30’s definitely are prime years in MMA, even in the lowest weight classes

That “miles” argument is so overblown here on Sherdog. Max hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down and he’s only 31. Stop creating this false narrative

Doing well against an aging kz def means he'll be champ someday lol

Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard that before. Arnold Allen probably was one of them, right?

He has been in quite a few wars.
It’s only a matter of time before the rest of the division catches up.
His main problem is that he was beaten soundly in his last fight with the champ.

Also, are you really trying to tell someone else what type of arguments that they’re allowed make?
Is that something that you do in real life?
Does it work?

Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard that before. Arnold Allen probably was one of them, right?

So one instance must obviously disprove the entire thesis.

"Turned Kattar to 4% in Doom" is fucking hilarious. The face icon changing as your life diminishes was always funny to me, and that mental picture is burnt indelibly into my brain. I got a good laugh out of that. Thank you.

Your thoughts on primes is well documented. Max is not in his prime. He has diversified his approach offensively a bit these last few years, which I've been happy to see.

You’re making baseless arguments, that’s why I’m calling you out.

Based on what? If Volk didn’t exist, Max would still be the champ with like 10 defences. What exactly makes you think he’s out of prime?

Watching his fights has shown me he's out of his prime. You can even see the difference in him as as person in his interviews as an example of how the wear and tear of fighting has changed him. He's absorbed a lot of punishment.

Like how? I thought that his performance against Kattar was his best ever. Allen and Yair are no joke. Much harder fights than guys like old Frankie, Cub or Ricardo Lamas. And he finished KZ, something that he hasn’t done in a while and really isn’t known for.

Interviews? Holloway looked way worse back in 2018 and had 3 fights cancelled that year. Do think he was out of prime back then too?

You literally have zero arguments thus far.

Listen to his speech in those interviews? You clearly don't see a difference from years ago until now? Blinders much? Lol

Like I said, your perspective on primes is well documented over the years and we've had prime discussions before where it's proven its useless to engage you. Enjoy.
