News Matt Brown argues ‘if anybody is to blame for fighter pay, it’s the fighters"

I think you are missing the point of a business.

Businesses success is usually defined by revenue and profits. Blaming a business like the UFC because they take too much money and control from their employees/contractors is only one side of the story.

Fans, media, state, or federal will never change the problem of pay as whole. That is an issue the fighters themselves have to take up and no one else. The government/courts could impose some standards in contracts with the right court ruling or bill passes. But it won't ever say you must pay fighters "X" amount or percentage from your revenues.

You're acting like out the goodness of UFC's heart they should just say we'll pay out 40% of the revenue to the fighters even though we pay more than anyone else in the business currently and that is fantasy world thinking.

Brown is 100% right that the fighters are the one's that have to fix this. Like I said previously most major sports go through this phase and eventually the UFC will to. I'm not saying the UFC is right or wrong in this matter, they are just doing what any business would do in this same situation. If anyone is waiting for government or society to go fight for the fighters, good luck.
Oh, good. I needed someone to misinterpret what's being said and feed me cartoonishly simple ideas. So glad you chose to reply.

That's why I don't believe in unions. Some slime will always slither to the top to line their own pocket.
This is literally true of any organization or corporation in the history of the world , whether it”s a church, non profit or lemonade stand. It’s not exclusive to a union.

How many fighters got fucked in history of fighting sports.

I'm Usually agaisnt Union, but they should have started one decades ago.

Problems is, top fighters are the one with leverage,
they are usually paid well enough
and they would be the losers if they had a Union.
And that's why it'll never ever happen.

Only if these guys decided to do it, at this time, it MAYBE could have happened.

You're not a fucking Ontarians...
Liked you before knowing this...
Sorry we're not obnoxious enough to put T.O at the end of every screen name to let everyone know we're fuck heads like you guys.

If it makes you feel better I vote PPC, so I'm definitely not like other Ontarians lmao

I run a medium sized business and it’s grown and been successful directly in part of the fact that I actually pay a good wage and focus on develop my team members.

I believe the UFC could grow the sport substantially AND make more money by paying bottom card guys more and lowering PPV costs. The average person I speak to has zero interest in paying $100 Canadian for a PPV and we all just find links. They greedily strong armed their way out of being played in bars too by naming an obscene price in order to show a PPV.

I remember 10-15 years ago when half the bars in my area were playing cards. Not long ago I was in Boston and couldn’t even find a spot near me playing it. Wild. My parents’ stopped playing them at their restobar when they threatened legal fees for not paying like $1500 or whatever it was to show it on one TV.

They could truly grow the sport if they would stop penny pinching so aggressively.

We call you guys BIFFO’s out east - big ignorant fuck from Ontario. I know you’re not all bad but it’s funny and the bad ones are always the loudest

The only person I ever had to fire from my company was a hyper arrogant Ontario transplant who every one of us absolutely hated on the crew hahaha…

I took a job as a maintenance manager in the GTA at a factory and hated living there so much, I quit with no notice and drove back home lol. Idk how you guys do it

Brown can't really speak on this subject since he's only worth 20k a fight.
No it's the complete opposite. Browns last win paid him $300k and his last loss paid him $155k.

If he had been making 20k a fight and retired with a broken body/no money than his tone would be completely different.

Guys like DC and Brown will come off as shills because they had relatively speaking well paid careers compared to the average peer.

He's absolutely right but the fact that he turns around and sucks off Dana White and the UFC on the same token proves he's just a big of a fucking idiot

Ive not lived anywhere else this hell I endure is the only life I know. I went on a business trip to Vancouver last summer, and fuck I did not want to return. You get to drive your car there instead of spending 4 hours on the 401 daily.

Gonna try to hit up Halifax at some point thes

i really dont understand why so many americans are 'against labor unions'
I dont understand it one bit. What is wrong if the working class organise themselves and fight for better conditions?

do americans have that much faith in 'the market' and kapitalism? is it instilled fear for 'socialism' or whatever the idea is that most people in the states have? Labor unions in many many countries have helped better the social economic position of employers. And here we have a nation super power.....where the biggest chunk of the wealth is going to a small upperclass....and the much bigger middle class and under class are basically accepting it. alof of Americans have been brain washed.

I really do hope that there will be some all around sports union or a union for martial arts so some basic rights are protected. The market is not fair if it is not properly regulated. It's a dog eat dog world and thrives on inbalance.

I’m not far from Halifax. It’s nice but still too “big city” for a hillbilly like me lol.

It isn't that Americans fear unions, it is the original concept of the why the union was started in many fields that has ran its course and is more or less out lived its own good in some fields today. They then become cancers to the business itself. They strong arm manufacturing/production line companies to the point that in hinders growth of companies and in some cases literally is a major reason of why they went out of business. Auto labor unions for example as technology and robots came on board many auto manufactures had 100's of employees sitting at home getting paid for decades because of the labor deal with the unions they couldn't just let people go. Right or wrong, job field is always changing and in most walks of life no one is ever 100% safe in their job. The unions have there place, no doubt about it, but flipside is there are many cases where the union has done its deed and are now just hanging around squeezing the life out some companies. As an example, there is jobs literally as simple as pushing a button every 10 mins. moving a roll of paper on a dolly ten feet for someone else to come move it to another warehouse. That person pressing that button make likes $50 to $60 an hour. Yet, a nurse might make $35 an hour saving lives. One has a union and other may not.

I'd be fine with an MMA union, but only if A lot of negotiating power is removed from fighters.

If they are to unionize they shouldn't get to be nearly as particular about who they fight. The promotion should have more weight in which match ups are made as long as union agrees the pay is fair.

no more of this I'm not fighting my friend bullshit. That's my only request if the union comes around. Steph Curry doesn't get to say, I'm not playing against my brother Seth. the schedule is made and you will adhere to it.

I get what your saying and mostly agree, but Steph Curry doesn't face the prospect of prematurely aging his brain when he takes the court. I can't help but feel that fighters should get a bit more flex in terms of being able to plot their career Arc.
