Media Masvidal gives a shout out to former rival Ben Askren. Wants to shake his hand

I was actually thinking about him and his thoughts on the matter the past few weeks and even checked his twitter to see if he had said anything.
He has been silent untill now and some were butthurt somehow but I respected it, because it's better to say nothing instead of being insincere or hurtful.

I think he's being sincere. I couldn't do the same personally. There's a few people in my life who if something like this happened to them, in my head I would say suffer, you little prick. But I would just stay silent on the matter.

U'mm He's gonna shake his hand before or after he sucker punches him?

Joke's aside my respect for Jorge went up a notch

I dont understand why a message to a single specific person would not be private.

Because that would be classy,
and not attention seeking.

Jorge had to go the other route
and make it a spectacle.

Public image.

Like Bono posing with a dying Ramone.

That's the cynical way of viewing it, and I definitely can't tell you with any certainty at all that you're wrong.

But there's also the possibility that by doing it publicly he's trying to make the point to anyone who sees it that even heated rivals who knock each other out cold and then mock the opponent can put shit aside when we're talking about life and death. And a wife losing her husband and two kids losing their father. Is Jorge really going that deep on it? For sure I don’t blame you for dismissing that possibility. I'm skeptical too, but prefer to give the benefit of the doubt in such an extreme situation.

What has Jorge done to deserve the benefit of the doubt? He told us exactly how he feels about Ben repeatedly before during and after their fight. This shit is hollow as fuck

Again, time passes. That fight wasn’t 2 weeks ago. And life and death (especially when talking about leaving a wife and kids behind) can give a different perspective. I can't read Jorge's mind, I have no idea.

He kept talking about how little he respected Ben long after the fight man. Even if seeing Ben in a hospital bed suddenly "enlightened" Jorge. just shut the fuck up or apologize for being a cunt in private. This all feels performative as fuck

You absolutely have a right to that view. And I'm not even telling you that I know you're wrong because you could be right. I just am gonna choose to try to look at it in the most positive light I can.

Classless grift to earn brownie points. He could have arranged something privately and if he wanted to gain some brownie points then, he could take some photos with Ben.

I was cringing throughout the entire video. Jorge Masvidal is still scum of the earth

Here’s why (Thanks to AI)

“”””””

Here are some key examples and quotes from his interviews in 2023 and 2024. (Only asked for 2 years of youtube interviews out of 6)

1. On "The MMA Hour" with Ariel Helwani (April 2023)

In the lead-up to his retirement fight at UFC 287, Masvidal did a long-form interview where he reflected on his career. The Askren knockout was a major topic. He mocked Askren not just for the knockout, but for the trash talk that preceded it.

"He was talking about my manhood, my ethnicity, my culture... all types of things you just don't say. So for me to get to baptize him like that, in front of the whole world, it was something special. People ask if those extra punches were necessary. They were super necessary. He needed a reality check, and I was the man to deliver it. He thought this was a wrestling match; I showed him it was a fight. End of story."

Key Mocking Point: Masvidal frames the knockout as a justified "baptism" or punishment for Askren's trash talk, mocking his opponent's inability to understand the real stakes of a fight.

2. UFC 287 Media Day (April 2023)

When asked by a reporter about the most satisfying moment of his career, he didn't hesitate. He used the opportunity to diminish Askren's skills and celebrate the financial and legacy impact of the KO.

"Easiest money I ever made. The guy’s a scrub when it comes to fighting. He can wrestle, sure. But this is fighting, you can get your head kicked off. I knew he was gonna do something stupid, just run at me like a moron with his head down. I told my corner, 'This dude's a sucker for the flying knee.' ... And what'd he do? He ran right into it. Some people are just not made for this sport, and he's one of 'em. He did more for my career unconscious than he ever did awake, I'll tell you that."

Key Mocking Point: He calls Askren a "scrub" and a "moron," portraying him as a predictable, low-fight-IQ opponent who walked into an obvious trap.

3. Interview promoting Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA (Early 2024)

While promoting his own fighting league, Masvidal often uses his own career as a benchmark for what "real fighting" is. The Askren KO is his prime example of raw, decisive violence.

"Look at what I did to Askren. That's Gamebred. That's bareknuckle mentality right there. No feeling-out process, no dancing around. Just pure violence. You have this dork who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room, talking all this trash, and in five seconds, his lights are out and he’s a meme for the rest of his life. That’s the consequence. That's what we promote. Ben Askren is the forever-poster boy for what happens when you write checks your chin can't cash."

Key Mocking Point: He mocks Askren by immortalizing him as a "meme" and a "poster boy" for failure, reducing his entire career to that one, embarrassing moment.

Summary of Recurring Themes in his Mockery:

  • "He had it coming": Masvidal always justifies the brutality by referencing Askren's pre-fight trash talk.
  • "Dork/Nerd vs. Real Fighter": He consistently frames the conflict as a street-smart, "real" fighter (himself) putting an arrogant, athletically-limited "dork" (Askren) in his place.
  • "Low Fight IQ": He mocks Askren's strategy, claiming he was completely predictable and easy to defeat.
  • "Career-Maker": He often thanks Askren in a backhanded way, mocking him by saying his biggest contribution to the sport was getting knocked out and making Masvidal a superstar.

Another one from the Ariel Helwani show 2023

"No. There's some people I don't like, man. I don't... f*ck 'em. I don't need to make peace with them, you know? He got what he got, man. This is a guy that was talking about my ethnicity, my culture... you can't do that, bro. I'm not gonna shake your hand, I'm not gonna be cool with you.

I'd probably slap the sht out of him and just call him a fcking dork and keep it moving. He knows better than to be around me or say some stupid sh*t. It's a different type of beef, you know? It's not like me and [Gilbert] Burns, where we're gonna try and kill each other, but after the fight, it's 'good job.' With Askren, it's just... I don't like the dude. At all."

Who said he had to wish death upon him? He could just sit this one out and not address the guy that he took two cheap shots on, did the board celebration and continued to talk about what a shithead he thought Ben was and how little he liked him in the aftermath. Idk just weird to me. Especially posting it publicly. Feels like he is doing it at least in partial for the attaboys what a good guy Jorge is being type beat
You've got a good point but at the same time, if im Ben im not gonna turn down any expression of good will. I dont think Jorge is that shitty of a person to have this be a farce. I could be wrong though.

I'm a huge skeptic so seeing shit like this I always wonder the motivation. Jorge wanted to play fake gangster tough guy before during and after the fight talking about how much he hates Ben. Idk. Just feels insincere to me. If I'm Ben he's the last bozo I want to see out there talking about me.

And then sometimes shit like this happens and you realize, yeah whatever problems I had with that guy at one point really aren't all that significant compared to this.

Ya, it may be cynical, but gotta wonder if Jorge is just keeping his finger on the pulse of combat sports media. Askren is the big story, he’s generating views, Masvidal can put this out and earn engagement and good publicity. Reeks of “Jon Jones, go check on Lyoto, go get some fans”.
