Massive renovations to the UFC APEX BUT.......

<Y2JSmirk> hey... if we just rip the entire soul and heart out of the thing we love then we can make money.

Fuck everything that we ever cared about.

Because money.

<{clintugh}>

Hey guys, we can make even MORE money by continuing to sell a dogshit samdwhich even AFTER that whole covid fucking shit show.

Yay!!

I hate every single one of you who are carrying on like this is an actual conversation.

Enjoy your dogshit sandwhich.
Look everyone, a stupid person!

Apex sucks for fighters which are used on big arenas and crowds. U are used to hear noise, fans cheering and now u are in quiet place where it feels like on sparring session....
Jeez how many stupid ppl are on this site?

So my brother lives in Vegas and drives past the UFC Apex all the time. For months now he's told me there has been massive construction going on there. The last card in the Apex was in March and the next Apex card will be on August 2nd so roughly 4 months of renovations. Apparently they're increasing the parking lot and increasing the food options by 3x. I don't know if it's just hard for the UFC to buy more land or what (we know how cheap they are) but this seems like something they should have done a long time ago. From what I've read this is a $25 - $30 million renovation.

From what I remember the Apex used to hold 300 or so people. After renovations the Apex will hold about 1,000 people. This sounded promising until I learned that the UFC will still be using the smaller Octagon for the Apex. This is a kick in the nuts. I thought for sure they'd increase the Octagon size but apparently not.

The UFC were elite in the way they handled COVID, and they definitely discovered Apex is a great way to run a cheap event to meet ESPN obligations. I'm sure adding some gate to this would help the bottom line, would be expensive tickets I reckon.

Apex = no atmosphere, no energy, no hype, no excitement, no meaning, totally flat, just fights for fight sake. For me its just a glimpse of the future when its all AI and nothing has any emotion in it anymore and humans are fazed out. All in all its a shame and quite sad.

Pennington vs Dumont has entered the chat.
At least Dumont has a great ass.
However, she decided to wear baggy shorts so... it doesn't matter.
I would still prefer to watch her fight VS Tybura, even though he is my countryman 🤣

I'd really love to experience physical death before things reach that point.

I miss Prime WEC at the Hard Rock

I'm a Nevadan (Las Vegan is a terrible unused term, we haven't collectively agreed on a replacement) and I'll tell you, even for an important mega company like the UFC, buying land in this city is a long and arduous process, especially considering zonings.
Apex is in a commercial area which already had shit built up around it.

TKO bought that southern strip you see along Rafael Rivera, from Torrey Pines to the border of Golden Entertainment as far as I'm aware. Those N and NW plots of land are public-private investment partnerships with the city and various, perhaps dozens, of developers. They don't have as much room to work with there as you would think, but that's only as long as they keep being cheap and refuse to buy out the guys who own YH L&S and those other offices north of the Performance institute.

Fun fact, that Sierra Gold right next to the Apex is where I would go to watch every PPV as Dana gave them a lifetime free pass to show them (he would come in from time to time) but recently TKO revoked that and the bar is a ghost town from what I've heard as I haven't had a reason to go back myself.

I would actually like if the Apex was affordable to go to, as I'd have something new to do every other Saturday or so, but the tickets are on average more expensive than PPV tickets at the Arena, so it's been absolutely non-sensical unless you're the type that has more disposable income than you know how to spend.

After 50-100 rounds of sparring and ten thousands of hours in the gym. I guess they kinda are used to it. They only spend a few rounds per year in a real arena.

Many get jitters.
They just love the attention of the arenas

Yeah but I do think a crazy crowd can amp up the intensity in fights quite a bit at times. Whereas the Apex with zero of that it has often had fights that turned into what looks more like sparring sessions with the intensity turned down a bit and I think the the lack of crowd noise is a factor here.

Great info, thanks. TKO revoked the lifetime free pass to show PPV's?

To my knowledge, which is secondhand, and the fact they don't show PPVs anymore, yes.

Sucks, it absolutely killed the joint, and it was a great little hidden spot for locals right next door to the heart of the machine where you could drink shoddy drinks at fair prices or free if you're gambling and friendly with the waitresses, with fighters and teams often showing up at random there to grab a bite or drink.

That is a shame. It seems like if the UFC fights were such a crowd pleasing draw, the bar would just go ahead and purchase the fights like lots of other places do. I wonder if the UFC fighters and teams still show up, or if they mostly just went to watch the PPV's too?

So which Apex event did you attend to have the opinion of such? As an ex Fighter myself who has cornered others at the Apex, I'd say you are very wrong from my actual experience there multiple times. When actually talking to fighters off the camera, most like the personal feeling of it. If ever attending an event, as a fan or person in attendance watching, the small venue is what makes a boring fight better, etc etc.. so again I ask, which event have you attended or are you just basing such a "strong opinion", on what you heard from those who dont know you personally, and didn't experience for self? You speak for fighters but aren't one yourself..

Why would i need my own strong opinion on something like that? Multiple fighters mentioned that apex is bad due to bad atmosphere. That it feels like sparring session….examples for you mr. Apex lover-

Bo Nickal
• “I fought twice in the Apex, and I would say that the virality of the moment is a fraction of what it would be with the crowd… As a fighter walking in, it feels weird. It doesn’t even feel close to a real arena and a real crowd, it feels like you’re just going out there to spar. So I think that it affects the competition.”

Renato Moicano
• “Nobody likes the Apex, my brother. You can ask anybody. The fans hate the Apex and the fighters, I’m pretty sure they don’t like the Apex too… If you’re asking me if I’m happy to fight at the Apex, no way, brother.”

Charles Johnson
• “For the time, I enjoyed it. But now, I’m just kind of like, irritated with it because I don’t feel like I’ve been afforded the full UFC experience, and my whole career is going to be in the fking Apex. And no fans; I can’t even get my wife in there and my baby girl ‘cause the tickets are fking $1,600-plus. And they say they don’t have any tickets every time I fight, to give me one ticket for my wife. So, it’s pretty irritating.”

Apex is literally good only for “hated” fighters and people which are doing better in “training mode” than in “fight mode” or fighters which are coming from low atmosphere promotions. Its simply common sense.
