She is the first woman signed to Bellator's 145 division.

She signs up for a fight for the new Bellator 145 belt against Julia Budd.

Then Budd becomes the new matchmaker for Invicta so they give her a non-title prelim fight against Alexis Dufresne, who had a hard time making 135 in the UFC.

Bellator tells her maybe down the road the winner of this fight will get to fight Budd for the belt.

Then Dufresne comes in at 150+ for a 145 fight? Seriously?

Coenen was just talking about the double standard for women being the reason the 145 class isnt being looked at as a major division, but then you have top fighters dropping out of fights (to become matchmakers for or to fight in other organizations) and people missing weight and champ fights against 6-2 prospects. The division will be taken seriously when there is a serious show of talent at the division. A chunk of the top 10 only get like 1 fight a year and end up fighting unranked fighters when then do fight.

Still feel bad for Coenen. Hope she wins quickly and gets another fight lined up soon.

The first female champion.

I have been fan of her since the strikeforce days, I really hope she can win that Bellator belt, what a shame she have to deal with everything is happen, it will be hard to take the 145 division serious after those things, I wish she could go to the ufc and fight at 135, she is a legit top 10 fighter

love her so much, wish we could have her in the UFC

Oh, I though you meant in Strikeforce.
I guess if you look at it from a weight class standpoint, there wasn't a weight class female champion for a long time after females began fighting. But she was the first to win a tourney, which I count as a championship, just like I would count Crocop's OWGP win as a championship.

Guess it depends on semantics, and whether one believes those kinds of titles are legit. I certainly do. Winning a tourney is tough business.

I made this comment on Sherdogs story about it. For some reason not many women around that weight in boxing, kickboxing, judo, wrestling, etc are crossing over into MMA. The talent we do see crossing over is coming nearly exclusively from the lighter divisions.

Until more heavier girls cross over - or there is a restructuring of the weight divisions and/or total weight cutting limits - 145 is going to remain as it was nearly 7 years ago when Carano vs Cyborg took place. When Megan Anderson is one of the rare unicorns to emerge at that weight in that length of time, that's not a good sign...If that's not a drought, I don't know what else to call it.

I don't even know any healthy girls that are over 150 lbs lol. 145 is damn near heavyweight for women, the talent just isn't there to justify the division.

I know Alexis Dufresne announced being pregnant last April and had to pull out of a Bellator card. Not sure how along in the pregnancy she was, though. Who knows what her weight status was at the time but coming over by 10 lbs is pretty crappy.

In reference to body weight, there isn't any statistical difference between men and women sharing the same height and builds. Keep in mind we're dealing with female athletes; thus the idea that one would weigh nearly as much or the same, or even higher, shouldn't be surprising. Check out this BMI chart:

Budd is not a matchmaker for Invicta, not sure where you got that from, unless you have her confused with Kaitlin Young.

I've always been a Marloes Coenen fan, glad I have gotten to see her fight live before.

"We asked the newest member to the Invicta FC matchmaking team, Julia Budd who she thought would be next in line for Cyborg. Her response seemed to lean toward Anderson."

from today. It was Julie Kedzie, but now its Julia Budd. Also other twitter posts from her on the Cyborg threads in the UFC forum.

Must be a typo, there's nothing anywhere about Budd becoming a matchmaker for them.

I'm not sure what to say, she seems to be tweeting a lot today about Cyborg meeting Megan Anderson next at Invicta at 145 and she's nowhere to be seen on the Bellator card tonight. Will keep looking into it, but right now I believe Budd to be the new matchmaker.

I did see Kaitlin Young signed as a matchmaker in April, so it is weird
